HONOLULU — The conspiracy theorists who cling to the false belief that President Obama was born outside the United States outrage many Democrats and embarrass many Republicans. But to a group of state workers who toil away in a long building across from the Capitol, they represent something else: a headache and a waste of time.

The theorists, known as “birthers,” have deluged the state Health Department here with so many demands for information about the president’s birth in Hawaii that Gov. Linda Lingle, a Republican, signed a law this week allowing state agencies to ignore repeated requests from people who have had a request answered in the last year.

And how will the birthers react?

Your Average Birther said:
That damned Liberal, Linda Lingle, has joined the growing conspiracy to keep secret Obama's birth certificate, and thus keep a Kenyan in the White House, in violation of the US Constitution.

In other news, The Flat Earth Society is suing every scientist in the world, NASA, the Russian and Chinese space programs, telescope makers, and Carl Sagan (even though he is dead), for possession of fake pictures which show that the world is round. In their lawsuit, they demand the long form, which shows that the world is really flat. The Flat Earth Society is being represented in court by Orly Taitz.

Article is here.

Oh boy. I've said this in another post, but there's a magic potion you can drink to forget about nutjobs and birthers... it's called BLEACH!

I wasn't aware that people other than the guardian of minor child could request a copy of someone else's birth certificate.

From the OP blurb it sounds like they can't get it, but the state has to respond to their request

It sounds ridiculous that they had to send a "piss off you can't request of a copy of someone else's birth certificate" letter in the first place.

In general I disagree. I don't know what the BC request process is like, but for FOIA requests it's better to force an agency to explicitly deny a request rather than just leaving the petitioner hanging. For repeated identical rejected requests it's reasonable to ignore them, but that's probably not a big problem. People going nuts over Obama made it an issue, though

Most days I'm proud to be an American.

Most days.

Clearly the woman is a socialist Republican. Obama, being the Antichrist, sent a demon into her to do his bidding and keep the forged certificate secret. He can't let the world know that he hatched from an egg that was incubated by hell's fire.

See, now this might get my vote.

If they are dead I believe geneologists can.

Well we have ourselves another hit thread. Let's avoid questioning Hawaii about the reason for the limitation.

It saves the taxpayers money by not having to mail responses to the flood of requests for something that has been settled publicly.

"The reason for the limitation" was stated quite clearly in the article.

Reading is fundamental.

I know it is stated clearly, my point is let's not stay on topic, let go off on tangent and make this a hit thread.

I believe that this is a matter of privacy. Why should anyone other than a guardian of a minor child be able to request a copy of someone else's birth certificate? I think it is idiotic that the hospitals have to even send a letter denying requests.

I have absolutely no idea what that was supposed to mean. Even with cutesy rolling eyes avatar.
