Los Angeles to boycott Arizona over immigration law

Ever been to Mexico City?

It's EXACTLY like Los Angeles.

Just sayin.

No. It's not. And I have. You can't get a decent cup of coffee anywhere in L.A.

Ain't that the damned truth. They almost always scorch it. Goes back to my observation about quality service being nonexistent.

I'll stick up for a LA. Unless its changed radially since the late 1990s it wasn't too bad. The traffic and smog were bad but the people were ok.

It really depends on the area that you go to. Beverly Hills has the reputation for snootiness. I'm living now in a pretty rich area, but more down to Earth. I came from the suburbs here, and you could seriously transplant that for the suburbs of any city. It was really nice out there.

Seriously though, I love this city. I was born in Hollywood. I've been living here my whole life. Beaches, mountains, temperate weather. You can do everything here. The only problem, though, is the politics. Without the stupid politics that we have here, this city would have surpassed New York already (since they killed themselves turning the city into a welfare state). Our planning won't allow anymore development or any mixed-use development downtown (with recent major exceptions). They won't even think of tolling any roads which would bring smarter development. Our business tax is far too high. Cut the business tax, allow more density, and you'll see a lot more development, lower prices, and economic robustness from this city. It sucks that so much potential is wasted here.

I only live in my area of NC for the coffee.

The scholastic opportunities come second.

I'm not counting Newport Beach. Those folks live in a Dreamworld. Never seen so many Ferraris, Lambourghinis, Astin Martins, etc, in my life. They're like Toyotas in that part of the O.C.

Dear Los Angeles City Counsel, thanks for boycotting Arizona. No, seriously, it's a really great use of your time. I know you're super, amazing busy what with carrying out this meaningless grandstanding, but do you think you could find the time to build a train that connects the city and extends the rest of the train all the way to the airport instead of stopping it just two miles before it in order to please the taxi unions you ****ing assholes?

Thanks.

Love,
Cardinal

I see a new signature post for somebody. Arizona the new center of the Ameican Universe. BYE McCain- Loved the across the aisle thing, it was just precious you keepin us in a top down," Domineeringocracy".

You still up in Boone? BeansTalk did make damned good coffee.

Yes Sir.

Between Boone and Raleigh; Work in Raleigh, study in Boone.

I don't frequent BeansTalk much. I like Espresso News/ Mosaic Books better. They inroast their coffee beans.

LA is a fun town if you know where to go. Hollywood has some amazing bars and clubs. I'm definitely not the type to dance but this Hollywood bar/club (I seriously don't know which one it was!) I went to was AMAZING!!! There was a dance floor right next to the bar and it was absolutely packed and everyone was dancing; I had no choice but to join the party. Man, I had some good times out there... : D

This is just foolish and stupid. Shame on Los Angales for acting like a tantruming child. This is interesting
Can I say that "I can't go to Los Angales and get around without knowing Spanish"? These guys are acting all butt hurt over a law that the Republicans have passed that they aren't happy with. Who boycotts a state over something that isn't their business? They are acting like little children throwing hissy fits.

To be perfectly fair I think the law in Arizona does affect California.

The illegals will be leaving Arizona in droves and going to sanctuary California thereby putting an even greater burden on the state.

I don't think the boycott or even threats of not doing furutre business with Arizona will hurt Arizona at all, after all you can't buy anything with IOUs.

We have never in the history of the USA had to "produce identification" when requested. We are free to not carry papers in this country. If you want to deport illegals, find another way.

Yes, I am aware of a driver having to show a license. Most illegals do not drive.

You realize that federal law has long required that aliens carry identification with them at all times, right?

Wow... I knew there are some ****ed up idiots in Cali, but I didn't realize that LA had councilmen that are incapable of reading and understanding laws. Perhaps y'all should do something about that nonsense.

They are training to be Senators and Congressmen.

Why muddy the water with facts? The law itself has been modified to appease a singular minority, it's within the Federal laws and guidelines that have existed for decades regarding illegals. They (the supporters of illegals in this country) don't want to know the facts they just want to scream "racist" at the top of their lungs and incite violence. If LA wants all the illegals, Arizona should pick them up with this law and send them to LA. Maybe they all can sleep at the LA Council and Mayor's house.

The law does not permit LEOs to arbitrarily stop people and demand ID of them, nor does it criminalize not having an ID. Also, determinations of immigration status may only occur incident to a lawful stop.

Read the law, please.

Non issue. You even misled in your post. The convention was not "moved". It was never given to Phoenix and then reassigned. Tampa is a good choice. Nice city, swing state... Right choice...

Non issue? Phoenix was not choosen over Tampa Bay for non immigration issues wink wink. You can spin it all you want, the decision gives the appearance of it being moved for the immigration reason. Secondly, the GOP running up and down the street in AZ will cast a bad light on the GOP, and they don't want to turn off latino GOP, etc., so they are not having it here.

Judge Napolitano: Ariz. Immigration law will ?bankrupt the Republican Party? | Ron Paul 2012 | Campaign for Liberty at the Daily Paul.

Hey if the law is so great, why aren't all the other Red states jumping on the band wagon to pass similar laws? Second thoughts. Boycotts scaring red states?

Arizona has been involved in this crap before the the MLK holiday. We lost a lot of money because of boycotts, and the moderates and liberals got off there asses and voted for the holiday.

The law will be overturned, the US Constitution states Congress makes laws concerning naturalization, not AZ (To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, Article 1 Section 8).

It is stupefying how this is being made into something so extreme, when the rest of us have been living by it all of our lives.

That's why 73 percent of Americans support the bill. The other 27 percent must have warrants out for their arrest.

Yeah, polls are always correct. Who took the poll? How many were asked the question? where did the respondents live?

Do you know a lot of illegals that do or don't drive, or maybe a link to this information?

How so? Los Angeles is a vastly diverse cultural city that recognizes the stupidity in the Arizona law.
Again...if it doesn't apply to us, then we shouldn't be doing any business with them in the first place, should we.

Your beloved federal government wrote it, lib. Arizona is merely enforcing it.

Setting aside the oddity of the idea, my mind was blown by this:

How stupid can you be? If you don't understand how the bill works, maybe you shouldn't be voting on whether to boycott an entire state over it.

Los Angeles is filled with illegals. Naturally, those who govern them are not going to favor any measure that makes life for illegals difficult.

That city council can stick a sock in it. As far as I am concerned, every one of those council members need to be screened for legal status.

You are correct quoting that particular (the italics mine) line in the Constitution.
With that said, please grant my request of identifying, highlighting, copy/pasting the section/subsection in the Arizona Law (SB 1070) specifically stating where, when they will be conducting "Naturalization hearings?"

You may find these interesting. Just a few court cases where illegal aliens tried to fight the system and lost. Some involving 4th & 14th Amendment rights to State LEO’s rights in questioning legal status.
These few federal court decisions on the illegal alien issue also have direct bearing on SB 1070 signed into law:

Dude, you have to carry an ID on you AT ALL TIMES. It has been this way for many many years. You have never been free to "not carry papers" in this country. Is this why people have such a hard time understanding this law? You don't even know current law that has been law before you were born.
