Students Wearing American Flag Shirts Sent Home

Now I am hungry for tacos. But you are just a little off here, as usual. See, you think its ok to put down, or demean this country, probably driven out of guilt of being born an American. Truly sad.

As always, j-mac, you are completely missing the point.

I'm putting down and demeaning the jackass teenage boys who were too clever for their own good.

And their mommies who stared blankly at Bill O'Reilly when he asked them: "Why?" Why did the little darlings choose that particular day to get all patriotic inside? No answer.

I would stare blankly too. Because the question is absurd. The ONLY answer is: Why NOT?

So can you list days it is offensive to wear patriotic colors here in the US so we all know?

Oh, the desperation of He who can't stand to be wrong...

I guess you didn't like the song...

Round and round in circles we go... I ask the question Why?

Why did the boys choose that day to get all red, white, and blue inside? What did they want to communicate to the other students?

And...

once again...

You ignore or avoid the question and ask some vague, generalized, meaningless question... "Duh, Why is the flag so offensive to you?"

Hint: It's not the flag that offends. It's the pimple-faced douches trying to be cute.

Round and round...

You calling underaged kids "douches" for wearing the American flag is far more offensive than what those kids did...

But keep avoiding the logical conclusion to your typical nonsenese:

Same question you've ducked still applies.

Why are they celebrating a state holiday from another nation in the United States?

Perhaps the same reason some celebrate Christmas even though Christianity came from another country. Many people bring their traditions with them, but in the Mexican's case their ancestors were probably here first.

It doesn't matter if Mexican ancestors were here first or not. What matters is that now we are a nation and our borders are sovereign. There should be no apology for a patriotic display of our national colors...even on a fake mexican holiday.

They didn't bring Cinco de mayo with them. FAIL

I am so thinking flank steak tacos tonight. :doh

You calling underaged kids "douches" for wearing the American flag is far more offensive than what those kids did...

How dare I refer to these young men as something that goes in a woman's private area?

I've noticed you're kinda squeamish about colloquialisms or slang that involves the genitalia. (e.g. Teabaggers).

And, statistically speaking, most douchebags are males between the ages of 16-24 who pay way too much attention to what they are wearing.

Anyway... I guess we have another non-answer to the Why? question.

Rev, it's not a tough question. Why do YOU think they chose that day to where those shirts? What were they trying to communicate to their fellow students? Just tell me, in your own words.

The easy answer is 'no reason' because, like most teenagers, they didn't THINK about what they were doing. They just thought it would be funny.

Boy, I wish I had a dollar for every time you dodged the Why? question.

But keep avoiding the logical conclusion to your typical nonsenese:

Um... I don't even know what that means.

My nonsense, like asking reasonable questions?

In that vague and limited CONTEXT, there are none.

Actually, squeamish has nothing to do with it. I've invited you downstairs to flavor country where you can be vulgar all day long. But as of yet, you haven't the cajohnes to cash those checks your mouth keeps writing.

The question is irrellevant. It's like the stupid flag code tangent is a guise to hide the fact that in no circumstances is an old navy shirt offensive.

so then why are you whining, calling highschool kids wearing patriotic old navy t-shirts "douchebags"?

Round and round we go. I ask the question Why not?

Good question: Let's put it in a specific CONTEXT.

You're wearing an American Flag t-shirt and bandanna to the Puerto Rican day parade in New York. Why not?

Context 1: You're hanging with your friend and his Puerto Rican grandmother, singing, dancing, eating, enjoying the celebration of culture.

Context 2: You and three friends (all dressed like you) are standing off by yourselves, eyeing everyone else with distain.

In which context are you likely to get your ass kicked?

If the four stooges at Live Oak high had been hanging with their Mexican-American friends, working the Spanish club booth, cheering the dancers and Mariachi band... their shirts and bandanas would have been invisible.

But as described in the story, they were sitting off by themselves when several students approached them and asked why they chose to wear the flag bandanas and t-shirts.

The moral: Three wrongs don't make a right.

1)The students who approached them were wrong to do--just leave it alone. Don't give them the satisfaction by feeding into their trollish behavior. And don't be so thin-skinned.

2)The school was wrong to send them home. A wise administrator would have asked them Why? And when the boys came back with "patriotism" b.s., he could have pressed them a little further, let them know he's not fooled... but then send them back to 5th period. If there was a fight, then most schools will send both parties home. Parents have 0 recourse.

3)Lastly, the four boys didn't break any rules. Didn't violate school policy. They were just being dicks, plain and simple. Trying to push some buttons, get a reaction from other students.

Religion and national holidays are hardly the same.

Its amazing you even tried to compare the two.

Religion has no national border.

National holidays do.

It is amusing for you to pretend a national holiday less than 200 years old is something the ancient people who occupied some land of the united states celebrated as part of their culture.

Are you assuming that I should actually give a flying **** if some assholes are going to get violent over me wearing the colors of my ****ing country while IN my ****ing country?

If some dickwad wants to get pissy about my flag, that's his problem. And if HE starts a fight over it, then he's guilty of assault.

So again, why not?

1)The students who approached them were wrong to do--just leave it alone. Don't give them the satisfaction by feeding into their trollish behavior. And don't be so thin-skinned.
I agree, the other students shouldn't have asked such a retarded question. And the flag wearing students shouldn't have bothered giving the trolls a response other than "Why not?"

Agreed. Though the administrator need not have asked the students anything at all about their shirts.

3)Lastly, the four boys didn't break any rules. Didn't violate school policy. They were just being dicks, plain and simple. Trying to push some buttons, get a reaction from other students.
It's never dickish to proudly display US patriotic symbols within the US. The only dick would be the person who gets pissy about it.

Should all holidays that are not part of your culture be banned? Some people still have ties to other countries and there is nothing wrong with that. My wife is an immigrant and still observes her national holidays and traditions. It's part of who she is. This is still a free country.

I'll say it again. It is not a cultural holiday. It is a state holiday from another nation.

And yes it is a free country. Punishing those who display pride in the flag of the nation they actually reside in is an abomination.

Did you see the shirts they were wearing? It was a disgraceful display. No pride involved whatsoever. The abomination was the way they desecrated the flag.

It is a cultural holiday.
While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed nationwide in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

Oh spare me. You could say the same thing about the way the Mexicans displayed their flag.

You've lost and now you're trying to nitpick to win. Pretty sad.
