Students Wearing American Flag Shirts Sent Home

First, it's SIGHT, not site. Secondly, I've seen kids wearing all kinds of things to reflect gang affiliation and/or to stir up conflicts with rival groups at school.

I see homonym issues on here all the time. If I picked on every such mistake I saw, I would have no time to actually discuss the issues...

It happened sonny, thousands of Liberals cut and run during the Vietnam conflict........

Let's see.....

Liberals are cowards that burn the flag - Check.

and

Conservatives are real men like James Dean, Montgomery Clift, and Rock Hudson...

Wow. This is a thoughtful response that takes case law such as Tinker into account.

If the American Flag is substantially disruptive then this school has some serious serious issues with its hispanic students and it is clear that they have a disciplinary problem and would be better off in an alternative school.

Yep the American flag is now to be considered right up there with gang insignias. ****ing ludicrous. If these little Mexican gangbangers hate America so much then they can get the **** out.

I don't think it was the flag that was causing the problem... tensions between whites and Mexicans... white kids baiting (like what goes on around here) Mexicans into a fight...

Ya how dare white kids show that they love their country in front of Mexicans who hate this country.

So what if they're anti-government?

Ya because burning the American flag is the same thing as wearing the American flag.

No...the attitude that people can't show ethnic heritage pride and USE the American flag as a symbol to justify their hatred.
THAT isn't showing respect and honor for the American flag or its ideals.

Yes now showing pride in this country = hatred. Gotcha. The only people who were showing hatred were the little Mexican kids showing their hatred of this country.

It had nothing to do with showing pride in this country. They specifically said they did it to provoke something with the hispanic students. What part of this are you not getting?

We both know it goes beyond that and has nothing to do with being anti-American. However, you seem to thrive on overreacting about things, so I don't expect reasoned or logical commentary on the issue from you.

No I don't know that it has nothing to do with being un-American, these kids were provoked by the site of an American flag there is no other conclusion to be made other than the fact that they are a) not real Americans but invaders and b) hate this country.

If a Mexican kid is allowed to show his love of a foreign country in this country but an American kid isn't allowed to show his love of his country in his own country then something is seriously ****ed up here.

Really how is showing the American flag offensive to anyone who doesn't hate this country?

What part of this are you not getting?

The part about you claiming that people who can be provoked by the site of an American flag not hating America.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I don't think they should have been sent home.

But those who are trying to make it look like they were sent home because they were being patriotic and that sending them home was a sign of hating this country....are just hyper-partisans being intellectually dishonest.

Sending them home was proof positive that the American flag has a lower status than the Mexican flag in this school.

Oh, good lord. Is it fun overreacting about non-issues?

If a Mexican kid is allowed to show his love of a foreign country in this country but an American kid isn't allowed to show his love of his country in his own country then something is seriously ****ed up here.

I'll repeat: It had NOTHING to do with showing his love for this country. It had to do with provoking other students. They said so themselves. I'm not going to repeat this to you again, as you obviously have a problem comprehending this. I'm now going to cease discussing it with you as nothing further can be gained by discussing this with someone who refuses to comprehend simple logic and overreacts over silly things.

Once again it is illogical to assert that someone who doesn't hate this country would be provoked by the sight of an American flag. I understand that you want to wax apologetics for such an obviously anti-American/pro-invader policy as banning the American flag but don't ever for a second pretend that you give a flying **** about the first amendment.

I couldn't have said it better except you left out the word spineless before cowards

One-way tickets to Tijuana would do the trick.

I got a better idea lets send them to Venezuela. Tijuana is to close to the border.

Well, you implant them with a gps triggered explosive, or at least you tell them that's been done, and if they come back, their vertebrae will explode.

And here's what the supporters of the kids kicked out are saying on other sites about the Mexican-American kids:

I hope Annicia gets the sh*t kicked out of her. Gets cancer. Gets AIDS. Loses her parents, her best friend and her pet all in the same week. Has a fire and loses all of her possessions and when all that's over, experiences the worst possible physical pain for an extended period of time, with no one and nothing to comfort her, before she finally expires and leaves this world the broken, shattered, awful b*tch that she really is.
California kids blasted for wearing American flag shirts on Cinco de Mayo - Topix

They shouldn't have been kicked out; but they shouldn't have been provoking. If it was the shirts alone, then they definitely shouldn't have been kicked out, but I've read other reports that say the kids kicked out were also saying things to provoke the Hispanic kids.

But I'm glad to know that none of the people who are against immigrants are hateful or anything.

And believe me, I know that not all people in support of immigration reform are racist (as I'm in favor of reform and security - just not maybe the same way that people who are SO outraged by this non-issue); but until I see the people so concerned about this issue blasting people like the one quotes (and linked) above, I have to take the outrage with a grain of salt.

That said, since we're all about first amendment rights for high school students, what about this case?

Teacher?s job on line over student column - Education- msnbc.com

A teacher was suspended, and the principal took over the student newspaper because there was an op-ed piece that advocated tolerance for gay students.

Where is the outrage over this clear breach of First Amendment rights?

If we're going to be concerned about student First Amendment rights, I expect that we'll make sure that the outrage and support for student free speech is spread out evenly, right?

Well these Mexicans can suck it, this is America jack. You would think these Mexicans wouldn't be so moronic to get upset about a holiday created in America to sell beer when someone else wears an American flag.

Sorry that offends you.

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps the offense had nothing to do with the American flag and had everything to do with the attitudes and actions of a select few that wanted to cause a disturbance?

Which attitudes, which actions? Link please
