Immigrant Families Leave Arizona, Fearing Law

I like the way CBS news calls them 'immigrants', not 'illegal immigrants'. Then they proceed to share the story of a family with 10, yes 10, children (all American citizens, naturally). They tug at our heart strings. Who could not sympathize with this honorable family?

They are currently unemployed.Sooooo, how are they supporting these 10 children that they so happily had? How much U.S. taxpayer money has gone to assist them in raising them? How many American middle class citizens deferred childbearing in order to pay the taxes to support this illegal immigrant family, that lives hand to mouth, never worrying about having another child?

On a dusty block in Phoenix, 15 years of the Quintana family's possessions are for sale.

Manuela Quintana said that they decided to leave when the Arizona governor signed the new immigration law.

For years, their family thrived with jobs in restaurants and construction, reports CBS News correspondent Kelly Cobiella. Their 10 children were born here and are U.S. citizens. Both she and her husband are undocumented, and currently unemployed.

She said that her biggest fear is being put in jail and having her children taken away from her. Just the thought of moving scares their 12-year-old daughter Graciela.

"I think it's going to be my worst day," Graciela said.

Two years ago, this park was filled with families every weekend. Arizona was home to more than half a million illegal immigrants. Since then, at least 100,000 have left.

Ummmm, good? This is good news to me, frankly. Illegal immigrants should return to their country of origin, since they are breaking our laws by being here.

    buh-bye, now.

Look if they are illegals then they deserve to and need to go home. So if this flawed law has managed to get rid of illegals that is a good thing. As long as legall permanent residents and naturalized immigrants are not bothered then fine.

if it illegals going by bye then I say good go and go quickkly and go in large numbers. It's that simple !!!

Any remembrance of President Eisenhower and "Operation Wetback"?

Under President Eisenhower, with Special Inquiry Officers for hearings, the federal government, in 1954, was able actually to deport, voluntarily return or scare off possibly over 1.3 million illegal aliens from Mexico over about a year during Operation Wetback. In Texas, the federal government deported illegal aliens on trucks, busses and even by ship from South Texas to the port of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 500 miles south and points beyond. Of the 1.3m, approx. 700,000 made a voluntary exodus southward.
He wasn't concerned about political correctness or a particular voter bloc. He did what needed to be done. And ironically, he won a second term.

Outstanding, now we need to enact a federal law similar to the Arizona law and they will leave the country, problem solved.

Not more laws, just the backbone to follow through on the ones we have.

I don't think they are all going back to Mexico, probably just moving to a different state.

Who will probably imitate this law post haste once the effects are seen more clearly. And, a lot of them aren't from Mexico. They're from Guatemala or Honduras or El Salvador or Canada.

They did similar stories when Oklahoma enacted HB1804. NExt will be how the poor farmers or construction companies are having a hard time finding workers.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Cicero Marcus Tullius
