Obama's fatal flinch on immigration reform

Dana Milbank - Obama's fatal flinch on immigration reform

    Will he, wont he?
Does he even know what he promised to do in his first year?
    Does he even care?
    Quote(By Dana Milbank
    Sunday, May 2, 2010; A15

Air Force One was about seven miles over Appalachia this week when President Obama dropped a bomb on his party.

Senate Democrats had that very day circulated an immigration reform proposal, and the Associated Press, receiving a leaked copy, reported on the "draft legislation."

But as Obama returned to Washington from Illinois Wednesday night, he walked back to the press cabin on the presidential aircraft and, in an impromptu Q&A, essentially declared immigration reform dead. He said "there may not be an appetite" for it.)

Much like his decision on whether to go to Louisiana today or tomorrow, this guy seems to have gotten his priorities in somewhat of a tiswas.
His decision to backtrack was hastily copied by all the other wannabe Politicians.
Both Republican and Democrats seemed to vie each other for speed in which they stated Immigration reform was no longer a priority.

I think saying "there may not be an appetite for it" is a far cry from calling it dead.

How long before the C&T bill becomes an emergency that needs to be passed immediately, without delay?

I'm not sure how cap and trade is related to immigration reform but I imagine that the need for emissions reductions wont be an obvious "emergency" until long after serious damage has been done.

Actually has nothing in common with immigration. By bad, meant to post in another thread.

Re: Obama's fatal flinch on immigration reform

immigration and climate are totally interconnected, via congressional scheduling

i'm surprised anyone who talks so much about politics wouldn't know

    Pelosi's choice: Immigration or climate - - POLITICO.com

Lindsey Graham: Immigration would kill climate bill - Marin Cogan - POLITICO.com

Reid: I'll do Climate Bill Before Immigration - CBS News

in today's political climate, post obamacare, neither is going anywhere

keep in mind, that the climate legislation they're juggling, along with reg reform and immigration, is NOT cap and trade

    it's a compromise, it's the lindsey/kerry production

Apologize for the confusion. Was referring to the Waxman-Markey cap and trade bill, (H.R. 2454) passed the House & sent to the Senate in June 09. Meant to post it in one of the oil spill threads.

Wonder how many times Obama has publicly said one thing and done another.
