Student convicted of hacking Sarah Palin e-mail account

Outing a CIA agent is the same as guessing the answers to questions on a politician's e-mail account?

Are you really that uninformed? Richard Armatige outed her.

Jesus where have you been?

Jesus where have you been?

apparently at the socialist society of libertarians?

No response?

are you really that clueless

libs were screaming for the man's head

he damaged no one and in reality she's worth more today that she was prior to being "outed" (LOL)

You have to look at the perspective, here. He'll probably get a slap on the wrist. Heck by the Dems viewpoint, he was a freedom fighter for the cause against that NAZI right-winged fanatical Sarah Palin. Now if this had been a conservative hacking into Obama's account, he'd get 30 years at hard labor.

And it would be called a hate crime.

This story, the OP, should be a lesson to everybody. This kid, who didn't know Palin personally, didn't really "hack" into her email account. He got in by answering Yahoo's security questions with some commonly known info about her and from a little Googling of her.

With all the identity theft going on these days, take a lesson from this. When you set up an account don't answer those security questions with your real information. i.e. Use a high school who you liked their colors, mother's maiden name: use a neighbor who lived next to you when you grew up, first pet name: use a cartoon character, etc. Get the drift?

If somebody wants to hack into any account of yours, and you answered those questions truthfully - you have helped the hacker.

Hope this helps someone.

That's excellent advice.

It's really hard for you to see the forest for the trees, ehh?

Kid should get into trouble because what he did was illegal, but at the same time big a hard answer to your secret question people Jesus. Kid was still a dumbass for even trying it.

Thats my question to you.

Why are you trying to water down what he did? Is it solely based on politics or is there a personal motivation as well?

The "end justifies the means" is the mantra of the BDS infected left. Undermining Palin was necessary for the left so anything done in that regards was justified to them.

Look at the smirk on that white collar punk's face. Brat...
Well if he is sent to a real federal prison and not club fed, that smirk will quickly disappear, and will rapidly become a pucker factor of ten.

state prisons tend to be worse. The highest security fed prisons-say Supermax Florence USP has no assaults. But this mope isn't going to get to a Level IV USP or higher-probably probation after maybe 6 months at a FCI or campl

Yea your probably right, and to be honest that probably is all he should get considering it is his first offense. Although it does not alleviate the fact that he is a snot nosed dickhead (of course this is just a guess from judging from the photo IMO...I could be dead wrong).

he ought to get the same sentence that say Pete Rose got-a fed camp in KY or so. Of course Pete Rose is a tough bad arse you wouldn't want to get into a fight with. This kid looks like a prom queen to some of those boys

LOL..yea Pete Rose I remember that, he is a man I think could definitely hold his own in a scrap, unlike the punk in question.

I'm not "trying" to do anything. You're looking to score points and you're failing miserably.

Hack - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Far be it for me to agree with ADK, and I'd love to see anyone say he's somehow a favorite of mine, but you're off base.

If he hadn't put "hack" in quotation marks I'd say you're perhaps correct. But he did, signifying to anyone being objective in reading his context, and not just trying to punch the other side every chance possible, that he was meaning the more commonly thought of term of "hacking" when most hear it. The Mitnicks and Poulsens of the world.

Using Password crackers, using worms to get information, using packet sniffers, using keyloggers, etc.

What this kid did was a step below a "script kiddie", let alone a real actual hacker.

Its kind of like saying that someone plays basketball and someone "is a baller". The kid by definition hacked into her account, but the kid in all reality and common use of it is not a legit hacker.

What this guy did was the technology equivalent of finding the house key under the welcome mat. Is it illegal? Yes. Is it wrong? Yes. Should he be punished? Yes. Should he be excused? No. Is he some grand hacker or on par with what most people think of when they hear the word 'hacker"? No. Is he likely any kind of threat if he didn't get 25 years? Unlikely unless he gets lucky with a few other people having very stupid security answers.

Which is in part the point ADK was making....don't put your spare house key under the guest mat, don't make your password and security question something that a monkey with a keyboard and google can determine.
