Officials say an oil drilling rig on its way to a scrap yard has overturned in Louisiana.

No injuries have been reported. The overturned rig is unrelated to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that threatens the coast's fragile ecosystem.

The Coast Guard said Friday that the rig overturned about 80 miles west-southwest of New Orleans.

It can carry about 20,000 gallons of diesel fuel, but Coast Guard officials did not know how much fuel was on board. Coast Guard investigators say no fuel leaks have been found. …
Well, the rig wasn't operational, but still, today is not a good day to spill anything in that area.

I hope for a silver lining that people seriously start looking at less dangerous ways of obtaining energy. At the way it is now, you have oil companies go deeper and deeper to search for the stuff. These accidents should not be surprising.

Wait. We can get energy from the sun? I thank you for passing this vital and earth-shattering news to me.

Some green-sorcerers told me out there that wind is also a solution to our energy woes. I'm going to go to Wal-Mart, buy a pinwheel, and glue it to the roof of my car. Woohoo! I'll never go to the Shell station again.

After all, it must be that easy.

I had an old car brake down on me while I was driving it to the junk yard.

    Same thing.

This story is even less than unimportant.

Re: BREAKING: Second drilling rig overturns in Louisiana

HOUSTON (Reuters) - An inland shallow-water drilling rig capsized near Morgan City, Louisiana, while being towed to a salvage yard, the Coast Guard said on Friday.

There were no injuries, and navigation was not affected by the incident in the Charenton navigation channel south of U.S. 90 near Morgan City, Coast Guard spokesman Mike O'Berry said.

"This is not a major waterway," he said. "Nobody was on board. It was being towed."

The incident followed the April 20 explosion of the Transocean Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, in which 11 people died. The rig sank and a disastrous oil spill has ensued.

A 210-foot-long barge rig, which worked swampland and shallow water oil and gas prospects, was involved in Friday's incident, the Coast Guard said.

It had a 20,000-gallon diesel tank but carried only about 200 gallons of fuel when it capsized. Spill containment boom was put around it as a precaution, the Coast Guard said.

O'Berry said the rig was owned by T. Moore Services in Franklin, Louisiana. A telephone call to the company was not returned.

If I ever had a breakthrough in a new form of cheap abundant energy I'd install the first unit in Rush Limbaugh's house. Not because I like him or even listen. Just to piss off the hippies

BTW, when will this be Bush's fault? Can it be his fault on a weekend or do we need to wait for the week to start up?

Why would we liberals ever think to suspect that it might have something to do with Bush just because he was cozy with the oil industry, cared nothing for the environment, used his power to weaken government regulatory agencies, and TRULY GOD knows what else? Why ever would we think of that?

    You obviously did, though.
