(CNN) -- A four-story oil-containment dome is near the 5,000-foot-deep Gulf of Mexico seafloor, and BP workers are using remote-controlled craft to start placing it over a gushing wellhead, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The move to try to cap oil leaking from the sunken Deepwater Horizon rig started early Friday. This technique has never been tried at such a depth, and there are no guarantees it will work, said BP, which holds the license for the well.

"It's a technology first," BP CEO Tony Hayward told CNN's David Mattingly. "It works in [300] to 400 feet of water. But the pressures and temperatures are very different, so we cannot be confident that it will work."
Right, it's never been used at that depth, but it has been used many times before because this by far not the first blow-out they've dealt with. That was my claim and you just backed it up for me

If true this only proves that the only reason President Obama is making an issue out of this particular spill is because he needs support for banning off-shore drilling.

But, when you compare that to the hundreds of thousands of wells that didn't blow out in the past 33 years, those are freak accidents.

Besides, you have to ask yourself how those blowouts happened. I'm still not convinced that the Horizon blowout was an accident.

One blowout every 4.75 years? You may want to believe such incidents are as rare as hen's teeth, but the facts say something different.

No, I don't. Regardless of how they happened, they still happened.

They have it in position, but they won't know until Tuesday if it will work. Where do you clowns get your information?

Again, how many safe wells were drilled during the same period?

No, I don't. Regardless of how they happened, they still happened.
You're wrong, the reasons matter. Find out why they're blowing out, take preventative measures and, wella! we have safer, cleaner drilling. Yes?

Oh boy, here we go. Get out your tin foil hats, gang!
Do you know why it happened? They lost their mud? Lost circulation? The mud was too light? Gradient pressure caused a collapse in the workstring? Do you even know what any of that means?

The point you, nor anyone else that wasn't on that rig has a clue about what actually happened. Hell, if you worked on a rig, you would still be looking for the keys to the V-door.

This blowout happened to the safest, cleanest, most technologically advanced oil company in the world, who were running a rig that was judged to be the safest in the world, by the government, which had triple redundancies on everything. Sorry, but considering all those facts, I'm not 100% convinced that it was an accident.

This is a first and they are not sure if it will work at this depth. Your claim is BS.

They sure are doing a lot of scrambling for an event that happens all the time and is no big deal.

"Scientists and engineers working on the project were even considering untried methods such as injecting golf balls and other debris into the blowout preventer to gum it up, he said."

Right! It's in position. Getting it in position was their chief concern. All that's left to do now, is hook a string to it and start vacc-ing oil.

I know the Libs hate it, but this is going to have a happy ending.

Do firemen scramble everytime there's a house on fire? Of course they're scrambling. Would you have it any other way?
