No, they can stop the leak. That's not a question. They just might not be able to snap their fingers and stop the leak, like you insist they should.
So the nanny state government is expected to clean up messes made by the oil companies? It's funny how you expect the government to do everything.

A third? Already? Yeah, it's no big deal.

I find it funny how you seem to think it's rediculous to expect the government to deploy it's nearly endless resources in a situation like this. You don't have a problem with the government bailing out the fat-cat bankers to the tune of billions and spending a trillion dollars on turtle tunnels and deer underpasses, yet they should sit back on their laurels now, because, "it's BP's fault"? That's brilliant!!

Iran with nuks is a big deal. This lil spill, being less than what the earth spills itself, is not a big deal.

Actually, drilling only accounts for 1%. Seems to me that the treehuggers have bigger things to worry about.

Whatta-ya-mean, "already"? You do know that this well has been leaking for 3 weeks. Right?

The Exxon Valdeze released 10 million gallons in a couple of days.

You do know difference between the two events, don't you? If not, the Exxon Valdez was an oil tanker that ran aground and damaged it's hull releasing oil. The current spill is mother nature forcing oil into the gulf under pressure.
BP is still trying to stop the leak spewing more than 200,000 gallons of oil a day. It won't take much longer to surpass the Exxon Valdez disaster. Some experts believe the estimates are low and it already has.

It's still a far cry from being, "the worst oil spill disaster in history".
