All dictators think they're benevolent. This page of the thread just further enforces it.

But I believe organ donation, like immunization, should be the status quo.
I do not believe I've ever heard an objection to it that I considered valid.
Like I said, I wouldn't force people to do it if it was just going to absolutely traumatize the bejeezus out of them and destroy their lives. But I wouldn't make opting out easy, by any means.
I'd make them feel like a big asshole.
I'd force them to have "NON-DONOR" stamped all over all their identifying information, too, claiming it was so that no mistakes were made. Really, it would be to stigmatize them.
I'd make sure everyone knew that a "NON-DONOR" was a very crappy and undesirable thing to be.
Unbelievable! It’s attitudes like yours that render it easy for manipulative Politicians such as the Palin to convince the maybe honest but ignorant to believe that there actually are “death panels”. You make it way too easy for the Igloo.

To gift one's organs to the living after you've passed on is a very gracious and generous act. It is also a profoundly personal choice. We donated my little brother's kidneys when he passed away and oddly enough my ex brother in law received a donated kidney (not my brother's) so needless to say I strongly support organ donation, but never against the will of the donor.

The donor has no will if he's dead.
Similar to a fetus, who has no will because he's not living yet.
One has to actually be sucking air, in order to have preferences.

I share your enthusiasm for organ donation, but the preferences (as stated during life) of the deceased should always be respected, regardless of our personal opinion. People have the right to choose to donate their organs, or not, just as a woman has the legal right to choose to terminate a pregnancy, or not. In either case, your body, your choice.

Oh yea lets strong arm people into giving up stuff for free.

I agree; we should be able to sell them.

Most of the people on the list need kidneys or livers.
For those with non demanding jobs losing a kidney isn't as bad vs the cash.

At death, at least the persons family could be compensated enough to of set burial expenses.

Whats crazy is that is was made illegal in 1984.
    So it's fairly new.

Solution - If you know you are about to die, and don't want to give up your organs, be sure to catch Hep C from somebody. They won't be able to take your organs then. Call it non-violent protest. LOL.
