Priest at his child abuse trial in Rome: 'I am not a monster'

A priest accused of child abuse denied the charges Tuesday in a high-profile ... "I am not a monster. I am innocent," the Rev. Ruggero Conti said in court.

Conti is accused of molesting seven young boys at the Nativita di Santa Maria Santissima parish in Rome faces charges of committing sexual violence and prostitution.

Two alleged victims told police that Conti masturbated them and forced them to perform oral sex on him in his home

ENOUGH ENOUGH ENOUGH ALREADY!!

I realize that this case is still in trial but let's be honest this monster is very likely guuilty.

Time to bring back the burning at the stake and boiling in oil. Does anyone else agree ??

Meh, at this point I kind of hope the hell they preach in their sermons, is where they're gonna go.

Nope.

Punish them according to the law.

If the law includes boiling oil and stakes to be burnt at, well...

But as should be obvious, this guy isn't proven guilty yet.

Which, for some reason, no one EVER seems to care about.

What are we, an unruly mob?

...As opposed to a rule-abiding one...

I did admit that this trial is still in progress but with the history of perverts in the priesthood and the fact that very few apparently have been brought to justice I have a reasonable expectation that this Conti guy is a pervert priest and yes that he did what he is being tried for.

What is a PEAR ? I do not beleive that you are talking about a fruit ! Or are you making a funny that the pervert priests are mostly homosexuals hense "fruits" ?

Well, yes, I agree that the balance leans against his being innocent.

And, I suppose, you were simply using the story as a prop for your rant against pedophile priests (not to mention all pedophiles, I assume).

As I was using your propped up story as a springboard to rant about my dislike of the tendency for people involved in well-publicized legal battles to be convicted in popular belief long before they are proven guilty or innocent.

But…meh.

As long as it wasn't too ripe...squishy..

You know that is a good point you make Mark. The whole Nancy Grace mentality is not the right way to go. The chances of this priest being innocent are probably slim. But it's good to stand by the principle of Due Process and assumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Wow what a concept - presumption of innocence ! I like that. I may not always apply it, but maybe we need to spread that around. ;)

The PEAR was a medieval torture device. It was PEAR(ish) shaped and usually quite fancy - large. It was forced into the mouth (or rectum/etc) of the apprehended and then a contraption inside expanded it, breaking the jaw, causing suffocation or other serious harm.

Presumption of innocence is, at least in Western society the norm.
In Russia and other such uncivilized countries the presumption is you are guilty unless you can pay to be found innocent.

So let this particular Priest have due process of whatever Law is practised within the Holy Roman Catholic Church.

If he is subsequently found to be guilty of the charges they could always give him the ultimate punishment.

Make him the Pope.

Oh, ok, that doesn't sound like a bad thing to do to those who sodomized children. In fact that apPEARs to be Quid pro quo !!

Yes I obviously know that "Presumption of innocence is, at least in Western society the norm." It was A YOKE !!!

Speaking of yokes maybe they can make that Conti priest guy wear one on his way to his execution.

I only have one response to this priest:

Yes, you ARE a monster.

Say what you want about humans... we got some pretty creative ways of ****ing eachother up. ;)

That thing scares me :(

I don't know why but when I hear an adult forces a child to perform oral sex, it just sickens me. Yes, it's disgusting that he masturbated the kids, but what the hell did that sick F do/say to get the kid to perform oral sex? I don't know why but the latter seems so much worse to me.

yeah, really - the breast ripper, the iron maiden, the drum, the rack . . . ooh - endless days were spent devising clever torture devices. Even waterboarding was used.

There's an excellent show on Discovery

"Machines of Malice"

It's awesome(not obviously for the people who suffered them), details a bunch of torture and execution methods from times past. There was one incredibly interesting one called the Brazen Bull.

brazen_bull-721587.jpg

It was built by a cruel king, who's first test subject was the guy who built the damn thing. and what would happen is, you locked the person inside the bull as shown, and you light the fire underneath, the bronze would warm equally throughout, so there was no where you could put your body parts to escape the burning. The person would than scream obviously, and connected to the mouth was a trumpet like device that would make it appear to visitors of the king, that the bull was magically roaring.

****ed up ****.

If I ever had to torture someone I'd favor the boot.
"What about them legs, they don't need those."

Reminds me of the game Dungeon Keeper with the Mistress of torture. :rofl

I must say if your definition of "monster" does not include child molestation you need to seriously re-think your ethical guidelines.

No, not without sufficient proof to prove his guilt, and even then no burning at the stake. We can't say "he's likely guilty" and then string him up. Gotta prove that he's guilty.
