At the moment the politics of this leak are not important. Stoping the leaks and doing everything possible to lesson the impact to the ecosystems of the gulf coast should be the top priority.

Obama now has his own Katrina. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Politics or solution?

Maybe the real douche bags are those who claim anyone really is calling for this. Hmmm...
Have any luck finding those links pal?

    I sure hope I didn't miss them.

The spill is a crisis, Americans will look to their political leaders to work together and address their concerns about these events. Politicians of all stripes will be under pressure to deliver. You say “this story is being exploited for political purposes” but its the American people who are the driving force.

I think the real discussion will wrap around the substance of those political purposes. Will Obama's offshore oil drilling expansion plans be curtailed or abandoned? Will the regulations be sufficiently toughened? Etc. If you don't think there should be any political repercussions then I think you are seriously misreading the American people.
They never make an issue out of any crisis unless they have legislation to pass, which is why you haven't heard about any of the other oil rig blow outs. You might, maybe, have an argument if this spill were devastating, but it's not. There will be token harm to a few local economies who will then be reimbursed by Transocean Ltd, and fewer fish will die from the spill then would have died from a regular commercial fishing season, and life goes on.

If anything, the local fishing communities have a great season to look forward to next year.

The fact that this is an extremely deep well is the main problem. This type of drilling is fairly new and has not been going on for thirty years.

    Here you go, spanky:

RIP Offshore Drilling. A really bad idea to begin with. It does nothing for us.
Now go troll someone else. You vex me.

    And what's a leading solution?

The news media will give him a pass and Bush will be blamed for the oil spill.
