yes it is, that we can agree on. Funny how you did not protest against the Christian radicals that attempted (and succeed some what) to stop a play in the UK that they had deemed was blasphemous. Death threats were used as well as threats of violence. It is funny how the right likes to be the "defender of free speech" but when they are in power free speech is the first to go out the window... the irony.

I've seen the Palestinian "Sesame street" that might cause you to think that.

I don't think they'll be calling for the death of all Muslims.

I can see how you think it's a pejorative action. I just think that no one should be granted immunity from being poked fun at.

If Comedy Central had not caved into it...

Then "Everybody draw Mohammed day" would not be necessary.

Nobody would be 'purposely enraging' another group, as others have asserted. In fact, if I do decide to participate, I will not be doing it to 'purposely enrage' anyone. I will be doing it to assert my right to draw Mohammed, or say anything about him that I wish to through creative expression.

Anytime a group has attempted, through intimidation, to abridge a right, that is the perfect time to assert that right through the practice of it. It is the ONLY way to SHOW that the right remains in force and that we do reserve it.

I especially find this particular Muslim injunction egregious. In my view, it is part of a systematic attempt to make it so that Islam and Mohammed are excluded from criticism, or that the criticism is at least blunted.

When Mohammed appears in images or whatever, the ONLY civilized choice open to all Islamic groups is to express offence, if they wish to. Anything beyond that should meet with forceful and assertive resistance.

Every orifice and fluid has been used to desecrate Christian symbols.

I think it's time for the art community to indulge in some cutting edge art.
Breaking new barriers.. you know, what modern art is largely about.
They have crapped on Christianity, that's old news... how about the next level?

Have a stab at the Koran and Mohammed.
Perhaps they can make one of Newsweeks' lies come to life and start with a Koran in the Crapper.
Not a bad title either. Some art wingnut can use it; I won't claim any rights. Have at 'er.
No fluid or solids need be added. Can save that for the next level of cutting edgity.

In this case though it isn't about pissing off Muslims - but about saying they are as much a target for cartoonists and comedians as anyone else.

I haven't seen the South Park censored episode but I didn't read anywhere that they did anything extraordinarily offensive. Mohammed is in a bear suit is all I've seen so far - how that pisses Muslims off I don't know.

It's not like they had him having sex with children or animals in the episode.

it doesn't in todays society, but eastern society back then and western society now days are incomparable, societal expectations shift over time and distance, and this is a prime example.
