Bush special counsel Bloch to plead guilty to withholding evidence from probe

It has been quite a while since Bloch came under scrutiny for violating the Hatch act, by using his office for political purposes. During the course of the investigation, Bloch had all the data on his computers erased. His indictment concerned withholding evidence from the House Oversight Committee.

Credit goes out to George Bush, who fired Bloch over the incident.

In order for our government to function, it must be held accountable to the people. And that means complying with lawful orders to turn over pertinent information to investigators. In that regard, I am glad that Bloch is going to get what's coming to him.

you are kidding i hope, complimenting the shrub for firing bloch in FY09
the fellow was in charge of protecting whistleblowers
and his own staff members were relying on the whistleblower statutes to protect themselves from his abuse of power, when the careerists let it be known that he was NOT doing the job of protecting whistleblowers
this happened almost immediately after the dicknbush regime began
the writing on the wall was so obvious stevie wonder could have read it
dubya bin lyin appointed someone who would NOT protect whistleblowers ... and now you praise bush for his efforts for axing the fellow - then a political liability - seven years into the eight year (mis)administration

Look, I have no axe to grind. I was one of the biggest Bush bashers in this forum while he was in office. Fact is:

    1) Bloch abused his office.

    2) Bush fired him.

    3) Case closed.

There is plenty you can bash Bush over, but this isn't one of them. He deserves credit here, that is, unless you dislike Bush just for the sake of disliking Bush, and facts be damned.

Good for Bush. One of the few things I can agree with him on.

had bush been truly responsive, and dealt with this character early in his regime, when the signs were already there to be seen, soon after bloch's appointment in '03 (sworn in in '04), then he would deserve kudos for doing the right thing ... waiting five years to figure it out is not deserving of such congratulation. from wiki (emphasis added by bubba):
The OSC has been criticized for (1) very rarely recognizing legitimate whistleblowers, typically only when the whistleblower has already prevailed elsewhere, (2) taking too long to investigate meritorious cases, (3) using a conservative litmus test in hiring, (4) discouraging federal whistleblowers from using their legal protections, and (5) generally siding with the federal administration instead of with the whistleblowers it is supposed to protect. [9][10]

On March 22, 2007, U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka (Democrat, Hawaii), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia, held a hearing on "Safeguarding the Merit System Principles." In his opening statement, Sen. Akaka stated, "organizations that help whistleblowers claim that OSC has gone from being their first option for relief to their last choice since OSC no longer works with agencies to achieve informal relief and the percentage of corrective actions and stays has been cut in half since 2002
what a politician ... what neocon litmus test:
Bloch has been a lightning rod for controversy since he took the position, his first major actions as head of the office were to choose as deputy a lawyer who had publicly taken a position against the "homosexual agenda," and to hire young lawyers from Ave Maria School of Law, the conservative Catholic school founded by Domino's Pizza billionaire Tom Monaghan
bloch has no alibi that he was unaware his breach was unethical (emphasis again added by bubba):
... he was a partner with Stevens & Brand, LLP, of Lawrence, Kansas, where he practiced in the areas of civil rights law, employment law, and legal ethics. ... He worked on important cases that set precedents in the field of legal ethics, including a ground-breaking Texas case that changed the way plaintiffs’ lawyers handle mass tort cases. Mr. Bloch served as chair of his county Bar Ethics and Grievance Committee, investigating cases of alleged breaches by attorneys of ethics rules, and making recommendations to the state Supreme Court on disciplinary action. He also served on the state board of discipline, hearing testimony and legal arguments, and making findings on appropriate discipline of attorneys.

Bloch missed his calling, and refined training on such matters... by one administration.
The Clintons and Algore could have used another like Bloch, he was exactly their kinda guy.

    This does not sound right.

    This sounds much more accurate.

    1) Bush and company either ordered or encouraged its employees to break the Hatch act and worse.

    2) Employees get caught, and are made scapegoats.. after all they got caught!

    3) Bush has to fire them to save face and save the image of the office of the President and avoid prosecution.

    4) case closed, with the usual Washington whitewash.

now that sounds much more realistic.

Come back to us when you actually have some facts behind this dribble you are trying to pass off as reality.
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
