That has zero to do with the point and you know it. No one is challenging freedom of religion. This is about the history of the man.

Well, freedom of religion sometimes rubs up against free speech. In America, you aren't guaranteed to never be offended.

I put Islam in the same category as Fred Phelps, to be honest...backward ass religious fanatics.

That is pretty over the top since there are billions of Muslims in the world. Most of them are not in any way affiliated with terrorism.

So I suppose Fred Phelps represents all Chrsitians as well?

Actually, I'm just insulting the ones who can't take a joke. That and the ones who stone women for getting raped. Oh, and the ones who blow things up can be tossed in, as well. I may be a big meanie, but I've never publicly beat a woman for showing an ankle or daring to walk next to some guy she's not related to. But by all means let's make ME out to be the bad guy. Some dude is making death threats over a freakin' cartoon and Stekim is the bad guy? Cool. I can live with that.

Nope. However, I think that, like many religious people, they need a minder and a set of rules to follow because they are incapable of independent thought. I think the overwhelming majority don't give a rat's ass what Stekim says. The ones who think infidels should be killed, however, can kiss my ass.

When Christians start threatening to kill the creators of online cartoons on a widespread basis, I'll probably make gross generalizations about them, too.

This is not an isolated event. It has become practically routine. For whatever reason, it appears that large numbers of Islamic adherents do not believe in the concept of free speech, and wish to enforce their views on the rest of us through the use of violence.

This kind of hyperbole tends to happen when any Islamic extremist group makes threats. The same thing happened when that Dutch cartoonist made the cartoon portraying Muhammad. It will die down after awhile. I just wish people could take a step back and realize that you can't blame an entire religion for the actions of one particular group. However, right now you are fighting a losing battle because people have a hard time listening to reason when they are outraged by something.

I don't know what you're talking about, but assuming it's Allah or something, there is a difference between literally hearing voices and having the impression that you are hearing divine will. Good luck finding a psychologist who says that all Muslims are schizophrenic.

The letter wasn't addressed the majority of Islamics. It was addressed to Muslim Revolution specifically.

Do I think that Mohammed was a mentally ill child abuser? ABSOLUTELY. Does that mean they don't have a right to follow his teachings if they want to? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Why should they give a crap about my opinion? I certainly don't give a crap about their opinion of my beliefs.

If I thought they were right, I'd be muslim. And frankly, SO WOULD YOU. There's a reason you aren't.

In most cases I actually agree. I just think trying to put down groups of a billion plus people because of some religious belief is, well, dickish, and usually an act of self-flattery.

I'm not offended. That's the difference. I don't care if an Islamic person calls me a satanic slutty woman on the fast train to the lowest hell. I do care if they threaten to kill me because they disapprove of my sex life.

Do you see the difference?

These people threatened to kill two people over a cartoon. They should be charged with felony terroristic threats and/or deported back to whatever backward ass place they originally crawled out of. They have no right to threaten people in this country because their prophet was put in a bear costume.

I don't think anyone was putting down all of Islam. What these guys believe is, frankly--whack. Pointing that out is fair game in a country with free speech. guess what? I believe that a lot of what YOU believe is whack too. I'd still fight to the death to defend your right to believe it---as long as it doesn't infringe on other people's rights.

That's the crucial point. These people want to start the same b.s. campaign of political intimidation against artists and writers and publishers and producers that they started in Europe.
