Ammonia isn't edible. Why would you find ammonia in your ground beef?

No. I haven't. Is there an expectation that I should have?

Why is it "prickly" to think people should be responsible for the choices they make?

Salt is a nutrient required to survive. Is ammonia?

Oh you don't know? MSgt hates when I "educate" him about food.

Eight years ago, federal officials were struggling to remove potentially deadly E. coli from hamburgers when an entrepreneurial company from South Dakota came up with a novel idea: injecting beef with ammonia.

Mmmm! It's actually only present in fast food burgers and school lunch burgers, but the government still regulates the amount of ammonia that can be present. Not very well I might add, a couple prisons were sold hamburger that smelled like cleaning supplies.

Cause I was making a joke about how hard it is to take salt out and immediately follows the prickly responses. Don't worry, I won't hold it against you this time.

I don't think any American is in danger even if the government cuts down on the amount allowed in processed food.

It wasn't prickly at all. I just get tired of people wanting to use federal law to replace common sense and personal responsibility.

I don't think any American is in danger if they just read the label on the package. A federal requirement I agree with, BTW.

I don't either but do you really think it's ok for the government to tell a food processing company they have to change their formula when their formula isn't what's causing the health risk.

It's not the manufacturer's fault that the consumer consumes too much of his product. I think it's only acceptable for the government to step in if a reasonable amount of consumption in a set period of time causes acute harm or death. The government isn't responsible for making consumer decisions for them.

MSgt also eats a bag of oreos and a can of mushrooms for dinner when left unsupervised.
