Travelling for tourism today is a right. The way we spend our holidays is a formidable indicator of our quality of life
Dinning on filet mignon and champagne could be an indicator of quality of life, should those things be rights as well?

So much ignorance about Europe from the American crowd.. average 34 hour weeks.. give me a break. While our average working hours are not as high as in the US where you live to work (and work yourselves to death), we in Europe tend to work to live. And even with the lower working hours, many countries in Europe have just as good or better productivity than that of the US.. go figure. And our standards of life are better since our income inequality is low compared to the US.

And we dont produce anything .. we have the second biggest producer on the planet in Europe, only half a year ago it was the biggest (yea China took over Germany) and we half of the top 10 biggest economies are in Europe. Pft we dont produce anything.. 6 of the top 10 exporters in the world are in Europe ........

So spare me the typical American ignorance and arrogance when it comes to Europe and learn to read a book.

And for the record, this guy.. the Berloscolooni moron, he has his right to his opinions but he was the second choice after the first choice for the very important portfolio of Judicial commissioner was forced to be pulled because he believed homosexuality was a sin and should be punished and had not so flattering comments on women in the workplace. Berloscolooni knows how to pick em.. guess we should be glad he did not pick a former glamor model.

Also the title is bs. He is not an EU chief, not even close. He is a commissioner, in a semi important areas. Also to get this through the system it would require every country agree on it, which is not easy.

But saying that, many countries already have mandatory minimum vacation time for its citizens, usually 2 to 4 weeks for full time workers. So in many countries it is already a right.. for example in Denmark. I would wager that it is already a "right" in most of Europe in one way or another, including in the UK.

    I really doubt about that

The average American who works a 40 hour a week job gets 10 paid vacation days, 2 weeks of sick, two weeks of vacation leave per year. Our sick leave usually accumulates from year to year but our vacation usually doesn't roll over.

We're just gonna have to put up with the ignorance some Americans have about the rest of the world. I shudder to think what their perception of South Africa is on the whole. Hell some people here in Canada didn't even know it existed. But like anywhere and anything else, there are ignorant people in England, America. Well the world really. It's a shame. But that's the way the cookie crumbles.

    Thank you.
I get 5 weeks holiday per year but I do not get paid for sick except for Statutory sick pay which is about £70 per week but you need to be sick for three days before you can claim...I think

My niece lives in North Carolina and she said that Americans get about 2 weeks paid holiday a year
She said that there is far less job security in the States , effectively the boss can fire you far easier than in Britain.

That's true but it is still hard to fire someone.

Don't begrudge Petey his rant. Finally he gets to shoot his wad on a subject about which he isn't totally ignorant.
