Obama: gay partners should have hospital access

Were they denied before in recent times? I know they used to have this issue. I am just asking, because I don't know, and I know thats not the case in many nj hospitals.

Yes, they were still denied in many hospitals. NJ ain't Alabama.

This is yet another appeasement act.

It's the right thing to do. Enough said about that. People visiting loved ones in hospitals don't care what you think about the politics of it, and shouldn't.

This is yet another appeasement act.

Not at all. If everyone says that this doesn't happen, and it shouldn't happen, this makes sure of that. Folks who disagree with this are just looking for something to bitch about.

I work in hospitals...this is such a non issue. Ive NEVER seen anyone denied visitation if the guest requested it. Ever.

Which hospitals? All of them?

If it is a non-issue, so what? Why does it matter then?

I do not think he said anything about doing away with state recognized marriages.

The state governments are who recognize marriages. You don't get a federal marriage certificate.

But isn't that what gay marriage supporters want?

No, they are stating that a state recognize right or privilege given to one group cannot be denied to another group simply because a majority believes it should be.

How do you have a debate with someone from the right when the first thing that comes out of their mouth is "socialist" or "unpatriotic"....you hate America....that is the type of intelligence we on the left have to deal with....

This is why you always look so foolish Navy.

Again redress for the thousand time this thread is not about me.........Try and stay on topic...thanks

Your going to have to show me where I ever said you were unpatriotic or you hate America..........I will say Obama is a socialist because of his posiitions.....

One more thing didn't they teach you in school tthat it is wrong to answer a question with a question?

That should keep you busy for awile........;)

ANyone (right or left) that things homosexuality is wrong and doesnt deserve redefining marital and family discriptions? Bill Clinton when he signed the Defense of Marriage act? Barrack Obama when he stated his support for domestic partnership but opposition to gay marriage? Any NUMBER of liberals that dont support gay marriage? For starters?

While I do not agree with DOMA or Obama's position I do not see them actively pursuing restricting rights of homosexuals via the law like the right wing has done.

DOMA was promoted and pursued by the right wing not Bill Clinton.

NP, Redress was satirizing your overgeneralizing of liberals, with his overgeneralizing of conservatives. My suggestion is that you not do that.

Thats your answer? The only thing you proved is your lack of facts to support your claims.

To claim right wingers hate homosexuals only displays your ignorance for all to see.

It certainly explains your pre judgment of southern states.

You stated that civil rights does not apply to sexual orientation. That is a bigoted statement. Because civil rights apply to everyone.

Is it a pre-judgement to say that New England is by and large more socially liberal than the South is?

And now they don't. Just like everyone else, they don't have to jump through that extra hoop.

Don't you get it? Conservatives want everyone to have equal rights, they just want the people they don't like to have to get an attorney involved every time they want to exercise those rights.

Point out who in this thread called people homophobes or bigots, NP. I've read the entire thread and haven't seen it. Please stop making stuff up.

It could be any thread...........Be honest CC...How many times have you heard on friends on the left called homophobes or bigots....How many times have you heard them say we hate gays........This is a pretty new thread......It will happen here to...trust me...........

SOME conservatives. Don't generalize. Perhaps more on this board, but SOME nonetheless.

Yes, and when we simply remove that hoop, instead of celebrating because they (allegedly) support equal rights, they find reasons to bitch and moan about it.

NP, I've heard liberals say pretty nasty things about conservatives, and conservatives say pretty nasty things about liberals. But it hasn't happened on this thread... yet. So there's no reason to make the accusation.

I have a POA for many different things.........It takes only a few minutes to get it notarized.........you don't even have to see a lawyer..........

And how many times have you heard the right calling lefties all kinds of names too?

Names get called by both sides all the time. When you see it happen unfairly, I urge you to complain, and don't do it yourself.

Now, back to THIS THREAD.

It only took a few minutes for Obama to sign this order too.

So what's the problem? Do you oppose visitation rights for gays? If not, what more is there to say about this?

Yes, and when we simply remove that hoop, instead of celebrating because they (allegedly) support equal rights, they find reasons to bitch and moan about it.

Remember. Obama mandated it. Doesn't matter whether it is good or bad, the "haters" will attack it no matter what. It speaks to the inability to look at things objectively, for some.

Just give some on the the left time......it will...............

And now that doesn't have to happen. Isn't that a good thing?
