It's hard to know what to make of it. If intelligence doesn't validate the story, then there's a couple of possible reasons. 1. It could be to create a mild sense of fear among the population. People who are fearful are easier to manipulate and control. 2. It could be that he really believes it regardless of what our intelligence community says. 3. It could have the purpose of convincing Americans that we need to stay in the two wars he reportedly wanted to get us out of.

Whatever the case, why would he be talking about bringing down nuclear weapon capabilities for us if the threat is higher? It's not that we don't have enough of them, but what would be the purpose?

The fact that he said it in front of the "47-nation Nuclear Security Summit" and not during the state of the union or something actually directed at citizens makes me think that my theory , that it's all part of trying to persuade countries into working together to reduce the chance of a nuclear weapon falling into the hands of terrorists, much more likely in my opinion.

I honestly have no idea how people read this and automatically pull the "he's trying to control us" card. Not trying to be rude, just curious, but do you base that option upon his previous actions (i know many conservatives are of the opinion that many of his other goals are all about controlling the public, like healthcare) or do you base it solely on the information in the article?

I'm not pulling any card. I'm tossing out some possibilities.

Now Obama is doing the same thing here, which is not ok to me.

Honestly, some people seem to turn blind when a chance to criticise Obama arises. The risk of WMD's is real (I don't believe I have to reference this), and it is a waste of time to debate wheter Obama is hyping this or not.
His talks in the Summit were not ground-breaking, agreed, but at least he is doing something.

    What say you?
It's all about politics. Obama has to look like he's keeping up with National Defense, so the RW Reps won't say he's weak. Chances of an arab getting hold of a nuclear bomb and knowing what to do with it is infinitesimal... about the same possibility as getting hit by a meteorite.

about the same possibility of them getting into a modern aircraft and flying it into a tall building.

Arabs are just a bunch of stupid camel jockies, after all. What do they know about complicated stuff like nuclear bombs and jet aircraft?
