Huckabee likens gay marriage to incest, drugs - More politics- msnbc.com

WASHINGTON - Mike Huckabee, a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, says the effort to allow gays and lesbians to marry is comparable to legalizing incest, polygamy and drug use.

Huckabee also told college journalists last week that gay couples should not be permitted to adopt. "Children are not puppies," he said.

...

In response to a 1992 questionnaire from The Associated Press, Huckabee, then a Senate candidate in Arkansas, spelled out his opposition to homosexuality, saying it was crucial that the country not "legitimize immorality."

"I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle," he wrote, in response to a question about gays in the military.

He also advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, saying it was necessary to confine "carriers of this plague."

As governor, Huckabee supported an Arkansas policy that prevented same-sex couples from serving as foster parents. On gay marriage, he said in an interview, "Marriage has historically never meant anything other than a man and a woman. It has never meant two men, two women, a man and his pet, or a man and a whole herd of pets."

Huckabee has attempted to maintain an image of a man who, while being opposed to gay marriage, is not a homophobe; however, given the recent statements by the former Republican Presidential candidate, this brings his opinion into question. If he is not a homophobe, why the attempt to demonize homosexuality in comparison with something as universally immoral as incest? Given this and his other declarations, it is clear that our good Governor Huckabee has neglected to read the vast majority of unbiased, scientific studies which conclude that homosexuality is psychologically sound, making him not only ignorant of the facts, but perhaps a little more homophobic than he would like to admit.

Who cares. I dont agree with a lot of what he said but he will NEVER EVER be the nominee for the GOP.

He's soft on crime and illegal immigration.

His gay adoption line was particularly bad.

But we have no access to his unabridged words. Only the thoughts from someone summarizing them.

Please explain

I believe he is referring in part to this: After police killings, Huckabee defends clemency for suspect - washingtonpost.com

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee on Tuesday defended his decision to commute the prison sentence years ago of the man who allegedly killed four police officers Sunday near Tacoma, Wash., saying the defendant had received an unfairly harsh sentence because he was young and black.

..

The killings have renewed scrutiny of Huckabee's pardon record, and some prominent conservatives say the episode could be damaging to his candidacy if Huckabee decides to run for president in 2012. Though one of the Republican Party's most popular figures, Huckabee has been dogged by questions over the more than 1,000 commutations and pardons he issued -- more than his three predecessors combined -- during his 10-year tenure.

Dude's never going to get elected. Palin 2012!

Thats not soft on crime, thats just making a huge **** up. Its not like the thug didnt go to jail.

Read the last sentence again, and you will see why some consider him soft on crime.

Dude's never going to get elected. Palin 2012!

He's a better candidate than Palin. Wrong mind you, but more qualified and more honest.

I'm sure he's more qualified than Palin, but that's not exactly a hurdle! The GOP isn't going to nominate someone that believes people with HIV should be quarantined. I hope they nominate Palin. I hope Obama reduces her to tears in one of their debates.

Huckabee has almost no chance of getting past the primaries. Palin conceivably could. I think this whole thing was an attempt to appeal the the further right part of the republican base, and it's not going to work.

Anyone seen the Family Guy episode when Brian and Stewey are teleporting to different planes of existance (ala Sliders) and come upon the Disney Universe. Everything is wonderful and serene and absolutely perfect....and then a jew shows up and you suddenly realize "yeah this place is crazy" as they all go to kill him.

Its kind of like that friend you met and began to hung out with for a while, seems cool, everything going well, then out of no where one day you head to the pool, he takes off his shirt, and there's a giant swaztica on his back and you're like "WTF".

This is Mike Huckabee.

Mike is one of those guys that on first glance and initially seemed like my ideal politician. He was rather well spoken with a "down to earth" kind of feel to it. He could speak like a preacher giving a sermon yet it was more teaching than lecturing. He had a pretty good sense of humor and was able to connect with pop culture and even laugh at himself (for example his times on The Colbert Report). He was for the Fair Tax. He seemed rather pragmatic and realistic when it came to the whole populism thing and not seeming "out for the corporation".

Then one day you hear him say some nutball extreme religious right comment and you just kind of blink, rub your eyes, and go "Huwahhh?"

Blindsided me when it first happened and now I just lament a guy that I think outside of that would've been such a good candidate.

Best. Post. Ever.

I hope they nominate Palin as well. I really do. ;)

Oh, I agree. ;)

gee wiz, maybe he's a Christian and therefore believes homosexuality (along with any form of sexual expression outside of a marriage) to be sinful?

Palin will win a seat in the Senate in 2012 or 14.......

gee wiz, maybe he's a Christian and therefore believes homosexuality (along with any form of sexual expression outside of a marriage) to be sinful?

That is impossible....Don't you know if you disagree with homosexuality the left says you a homophobe or a bigot............

HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!

He's a horrible Christian. Didn't Jesus walk among the lepers, when everyone else was too scared to?

I'm not entirely sure Jesus would be down with putting all the people with HIV in quarantine. Huckabee uses Christianity when it suits him to validate his own biases, like oh so many Christians out there.

HIV is a highly infectious disease.........You may not know they quarantined people with TB in the forties and fifties...........

What do you have to base this opinion on?

Didn't Jesus walk among the lepers, when everyone else was too scared too?

Jesus could heal lepers.Everyone else can't.

I am pretty sure Jesus could heal everyone who had HIV. So it is not the same thing.
