Gay Marriage Fails to get on California Ballot

What does the Second Amendment have to do with the Bible? Please Navy.....we do want to get you going there. Begin with the Biblical verse that talks about the Second Amendment.

"Blessed are the gun touters and bible clutchers".....yeah.....I don't think its in there.

DD you gotta keep up..ask Utah, he brought it up...........

Don't get me going on the second amendment my left wing friend...........You don't even want to go there...........

I said nothing about the 2nd amendment. Whose post are you referring to?
MOST Americans who support the 2nd feel no need to go around armed.

It's about protecting the sanctity of what marriage actually is, and not re-writing Webster's Dictionary and centuries of history, religious and otherwise.

Appeal to tradition fallacy.

I'm so happy this didn't get on the ballot. They just barely got a majority in California who support gay marriage. Another two years to sure up the numbers will ensure that there won't be another Prop 8.

There are a lot of people who felt the same way. I disagree though. There are a lot of people who are either ashamed of voting for prop 8 and regret it now....and there are many who are angry that they were misled by the Mormon propoganda.

we live in a constitutional republic, to be sure. but having the state grant your preferred relationship (be it man with a woman, man with a man, man with two women, and so forth) the status of "marriage" is not a right.

Sorry....but the Supreme Court has already found that the right to marry is a fundamental right. Loving v. Virginia.

You think Jesus would approve of gay marriage? He would love them, but would he approve?

Yeah I kinda do. But then, I'm not Christian so I'm probably not as strict with my definition of Jesus' teachings as a Christian. For instance I think Paul is a load of rubish since he never met Jesus.

California represents the turning point in the battle. The moment that California decides by popular vote to allow gay marriage, it will be the beginning of the end of the religious war on LGBT. I think that is something worth waiting 2 years to see.

They pass unconstitutional laws in Congress all the time.

Why do you post me........because of your name calling I won't respond to your points although I would love to blast your ass out od the water.........

Then how can there be a federal law against it????

You are almost there Navy....BINGO!!!!

That is exactly why a ban on gay marriage is going to be difficult to justify when the Supreme Court gets a test case.

Wow....I'm impressed that you are finally beginning to understand. :congrats:

why would they even take the case if there has been a law against it for 15 years? Why haven't you submitted a law suit against the DOMA?

Agree, Paul's writings are often out of sync with the teachings attributed to Jesus. Most Christian churches, IMO, spend too much time on Paul's teachings and not enough of Jesus's teachings.
As far as the gay issue goes, isn't it odd that Jesus never had an opinion on it? Maybe he doesn't care?
Read Matt. chapter 25, that is the essence of christianity according to Jesus.
All else is fluff.....or worse....

OMG....just when you started to show signs of finally understanding a little Conlaw.....you revert back to the old Navy Pride....man....I'm so diasappointed. :doh

You always attack me when you don't have and answer to my question...........none of you liberals do,,,,,,,,,,

What name did I call you? how many times? You are the champion name caller here....and everybody knows it.
If you don't like my posts, put me on ignore....
That would be a lot easier for you than "blasting my ass out of the water"....:2razz:

No, Navy...its not that at all. Its just that I cannot be the source of your education on Constitutional law and how the Supreme Court works. You come up with these questions and we try to explain them to you, but you either don't listen or you refuse to hear it. You think that people are attacking you....but its really more of frustration of trying to talk to someone that doesn't want to learn how things work....

Then the question begs to be asked why not?????????????????????? It seems like that would be the first thing you on the left would go after........

So far, the DOJ keeps dismissing most of the challenges to DOMA without allowing them to get near the SCOTUS.

However, there is a bill in the House right now, the Respect for Marriage Act, that is meant to repeal DOMA. It is supported by former President Clinton.

HRC | Respect for Marriage Act
Text of H.R.3567 as Introduced in House: Respect for Marriage Act of 2009 - U.S. Congress - OpenCongress

If this doesn't make it, then those of us who support gay marriage will just have to keep trying. This particular battle can keep going for as long as it takes, but once federal recognition is achieved, it would be quite hard for it to be taken away. And after that, if it hasn't been done by then already or isn't done at the same time, it shouldn't take too long for the SCOTUS to ensure the full faith and credit clause applies to same-sex marriage.

Gay marriage should NOT be on any ballot. It was tried, and it failed. This is an issue that should be decided in the courts. Simple as that....

Agreed. There are some really fascinating theories of Christian history out there. Some historians say the first followers of Jesus under James and Peter didn't believe Jesus was the son of God at all and that Paul created the Christian religion by himself. Really makes you wonder about what is a bedrock for so many people's faith.

You ever hear of adoption?

Some people don't want children, especially older people who have already raised their children. Heterosexual couples in these situations can still get married.

And homosexual couples can adopt children too, not to mention, some have children already from previous relationships. Yet homosexual couples are not allowed to get married in many states, nor are their marriages, when legal, recognized by the federal government.

I disagree. If it is only decided in the courts then it will look like it was imposed on the people. That is what social conservatives want.
