This story is yet another example that argues that the news media should wait until it has the facts before it runs a story.

He should still be declared persona non grata for violating U.S. law. He can't be prosecuted, but he can be asked to leave.

So nice to know that it's ok that if you only work for the government or are a member of the police, or a doctor, you don't have to worry about some of those terrorists...Yeah, I would not worry about them at all.

Actually, here is what happened. A diplomat from Qatar made a statement that he was going to light a shoe bomb. He didn't have a bomb, but he made that statement, knowing that his diplomatic immunity would keep him from going to jail.

Sure, he has diplomatic immunity, but damn, don't you think a special case can be made for jailing him? After all, terrorist activity should remove immunity for ANYBODY. And making an inflammatory statement like that, while not being an act of violence, scared the bejesus out of passengers, and that fits the definition of terrorism. He should face charges, and screw his immunity.

I would have no problem with jailing him for this. If we cannot legally, at least throw him out of the country for good.

What about the damn shoe? Was it filled with explosives or extremely flammable?
It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.

Violating a smoking ban is hardly grounds for banishing someone from the country.
He touched her over her bra and underpants, she says, and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear

It is if he can't be punished for the crime like anyone else can. Diplomats have to understand that they can't simply flout reasonable laws of a democratic republic just because they have diplomatic immunity.

The news report I read said they are doing just that. He is a low ranking diplomat, I think it said he is 23 years of age. He won't be prosecuted but will be going home.

It is when accompanied by a statement "I'm lighting my shoe on fire".

He was a smart ass, many people have lost their jobs for that before.
