DA to teachers: New sex ed course could get you arrested

A district attorney in Juneau County, Wisconsin, warned teachers in a memo sent to schools that if they teach the new sexual education curriculum mandated under state law, they could be arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a child.

Because the law requires teachers to instruct children not only about contraceptives but about how to use them, Juneau County District Attorney Scott Southworth said, schools are forced to encourage students to "engage in sexual behavior, whether as a victim or an offender."

And since minors can't legally have sex in Wisconsin, teachers would essentially be endorsing the behavior and could be held liable, Southworth said in the letter.

Memo to these people: Teenagers are going to have sex regardless of whether they have sex ed or not. Might as well teach them how to be safe.

Memo to DA allowing political pandering to hinder his ability to carry out justice: if the state mandates it, then you have no ability to charge a crime until the mandate is overturned.

**** off.

I do not send my kids to school to learn how to roll a condom on their/his penis.

What's next? How to give a blow job without scraping your teeth and causing a potential infection?

Gimme a break. School was not meant for this. American children by and large are just plain stupid. I interview people regularly that just leave me shaking my head about how ridiculously uneducated they are at such an advanced age. THAT is the bigger problem.

But you do send your kids to school to learn biology which includes sexual hygeine. Now you may have an arbitrary morality that dictates that your kids should not know how to put a condom on but that does not grant you the right to enforce that arbitrary morality on all the other kids in the class and deny them the lesson. This is a boundary and a right you give up by pooling your kids with all the others in the public education system.

Not even close to the same thing and an appeal to the absurd does not score any points for your cause.

And irrelevant to this particular discussion.

I don't think the Wisconsin law calls for that. Let's stick to reality.

Yes, when you fail to teach them the skills they need in life, they are uneducated.

My main point is, it doesn't make one damn bit of difference. It's not like kids don't know what a condom is.

Some kids are responsible; some aren't. The school doesn't impact them in that regard either way. That comes from home, and from within.

Kids in the top private prep schools are vastly more prepared for college and have far fewer teen pregnancies, and they don't waste valuable school time teaching this nonsense.

Well not till some one tells them what it is.

Then you shouldn't have a problem with it.

There is a strong correlary and causal relationship between a comprehensive sex education program and decrease in STD and pregnancy in teens. That is not debatable anymore.

I'd like to see some backup of this assertion that demonstrates a causal relationship between not teaching sex ed and fewer teen pregnancies, specifically in private schools. Otherwise, I call bull****.

And yet they still don't use one. I don't like the idea of instructions on how to put one on, but if that was the least of problems, I'd be thrilled.

Great argument. And if parents in the recent past had statistics to show that, as a whole, they had even a shred of knowledge in what the hell they were doing, I'd support it. Unfortunately, you have parents nowadays who are lazy, irresponsible, and a jacked-up mindframe that "teaching kids about sex makes them want to do it". Leave the fate of mankind to them and them alone? Pass.

Kids in the top private prep schools are vastly more prepared for college and have far fewer teen pregnancies, and they don't waste valuable school time teaching this nonsense.

They also have better parents, illustrating the point I made above.

I actually agree with you on this. Schools should not be teaching children that Jesus rode dinosaurs.

Why do you assume that?

But it is far cooler looking at a picture of Jesus on a dinosaur than a picture of a penis.

True, the dinosaur bones were placed by the debil to fool us.;)

I actually had one of my priests in high school tell me Jews buried the dinosaurs bones to prove evolution. Swear to God.

LOL

For the record, the VAST majority of Christians believe in dinosaurs. Those that don't.....well, they are generally the result of unprotected sex among 15-year-olds.

Or more likely the result of super crazy religious parents that take the Bible literally.

Great! Tell it to the ones who want to teach creationism in schools, and all will be well.
