WASHINGTON — Two weeks after President Barack Obama signed the big health care overhaul into law, Americans are struggling to understand how — and when — the sweeping measure will affect them.

Questions reflecting confusion have flooded insurance companies, doctors' offices, human resources departments and business groups.

"They're saying, 'Where do we get the free Obama care, and how do I sign up for that?' " said Carrie McLean, a licensed agent for eHealthInsurance.com. The California-based company sells coverage from 185 health insurance carriers in 50 states.

McLean said the call center had been inundated by uninsured consumers who were hoping that the overhaul would translate into instant, affordable coverage. That widespread misconception may have originated in part from distorted rhetoric about the legislation bubbling up from the hyper-partisan debate about it in Washington and some media outlets, such as when opponents denounced it as socialism. <note the bias here>

What did they expect offering to give 39 million insurance? So stupid, and I love the heart tugger "personal" stories further in. Nah.

What a misleading title. It should be: Dumb societal leeches upset by lack of free "Obama-care".

Good gawd.

A high percentage of Americans these days are just dumb as a box of rocks.

LOL

this story illustrates how millions of normal americans, smart and stupid, ie, normal, have many and real unanswered questions about EXACTLY what these 2700 pages of health care ACTUALLY DO

uncertainty, uncertainty, uncertainty...

you all appreciate what this kind of drag on confidence does to economies...

Hmm.

Spreading a message that makes people think something that’s not true?

You know – that Iraq had a hand in 9/11?

The Obama lied, people couldn’t get free health care?

Oh wait...
“(The) Obama never said people would get HC for free”

This is not true, of course – and even it were, the obvious impression was that they would.

Somehow, this is all the fault of FNC.

How do you think Obama got elected?

Irony, it is one of your major talents.

I blame our media organizations for not doing their jobs. TV and Radio news these days is a joke. There is little investigative reporting. Most political news shows at best let pundits, who are experts at bending the truth, yell at each other for a few minutes. Heck, some organizations are outright biased and proud of it. The political organizations aren't much better and are more focused on getting people's emotions hyped up than they are on real policy debate or legislation.

Without functioning journalism, these kinds of problems of a misinformed public are going to become more and more common.

People here acting like the GOP has nothing to do with the misinformation.

My thought exactly. ITs like watching a basketball game when a player makes a flagrant foul, gets called for it and then gives that "What'd I do?" look on their face....:doh

A more convincing argument if even one Republican voted for it.

God forbid that they try to pass something they, Democrats, or the American populace as a whole doesn't understand.

Ah that's it... blame the GOP for the Dems' failure to communicate.

poor little president pie-in-the-face

he let those mean old republicans misrepresent him

LOL!

death panels, death panels, death panels...

socialist!

it's all so terribly unfair...

why, what's a pitiful pieface to do?

GO TO IOWA, of course

then to MAINE

TELL IT TO DORIS in CHARLOTTE---for seventeen minutes!

gotta expunge all those FISHY THOUGHTS

clean up those misapprehensions

busy, busy obama, so much 'splainin to do...

The GOP was going around telling stupid people they were going to get free health insurance if they supported Obamacare?

Idiot Obama Supporter said:
"It's just going to be like Christmas," said DeCarlo Flythe, who lost health coverage for his family when he was laid off almost three years ago. "It's going to be great. You know, no worries, you know, the bills. We going to go ahead and pay our co-pay and be alright."
Merry Christmas DeCarlo!

Why would the GOP have ever told people they would receive coverage Day 1? The GOP tried to warn them they wouldn't, but the media didn't carry that message.

no, blame the people who don't bother to find out the facts.

Whats there to be confused about? Its a Government take over, thats pretty black and white to me.

You are confused... The government is not taking over anything. Its largely a regulatory bill.

In Phase I. Just wait. Kucinich said Obama told him directly that eventually this would evolve into the government-provided healthcare plan Kucinich wants, which is why he switched his vote.
