FYI: you can make a macro through firefox to insert a mod message in a thread with one button click. That's the first thing I would do if I were a mod...I'd macro the hell out of everything I did. I'd have a "flush thread" macro, a "public warning" macro, a "thread-ban <target>" macro...I'd try to set something up to send an automated message to anyone I just infracted/banned if they contacted me within, say, 30 minutes of having been mod'ed.....all kinds of stuff like that.

That is a different issue..... but the government has not TAKEN over anything at this point. There are those that want to go further (I am one) and those that want to repeal.... but all that has happened is a regulatory bill. Don't assign more to this than is reality. That is just intellectually dishonest.

So forcing people to buy insurance or face a hefty fine is "regulatory"?

Actually the fine is much less than the cost of the insurance, so going without is the smarter decision. They have to sell it to you if something happens and you're injured, so just pay the fine and wait until you're sick/hurt to buy in.

And that fine will come out of their IRS return. Can you imagine the freak out when that day comes? Some people treat that as their "annual bonus". LOL

I wonder what the supporters of this mandate would think of the government forcing you, as a condition of you being an American Citizen, to buy a gun or pay a similar fine.

Strong arguments could be made advancing such regulation.

No doubt. Requiring ownership and aptitude in the use of firearm would save the Federal, state, and local governments all kinds of money.

Hmmm... fascinating proposal. As one who would not purchase a firearm, if, as you mentioned in another post, education around use and care was also a mandated requirement, I would be OK with this and support it.

I enjoy hearing "out of the box" ideas like this one.

Naturally, the fines imposed on those that refused to purchase a forearm and train with it would go to to fund subsidies for those who -would- do so but cannot afford to.

So you're OK with the government forcing you to buy products of their choosing. Got it.

I would go along with this. Sounds a lot like my position on drug legalization.

As long as they don't tell me what gun I had to buy, if there was enough evidence that demonstrated that this would be an efficient and productive policy, yes.
