Doctor tells Obama supporters: Go elsewhere for health care

Might make things interesting...We have a fiarly large portion of Canada's doctors HERE because they cant afford to practice THERE...so...do they figure, what the hell...might as well go back to Canada? Do they look for elsewhere to practice? DO they just choose not to subject themselves to debt and 12 years to become a doctor?

Some will move back. Others will move outside the U.S. Others in the future will decide that 12 years of college is too much. Such is life.

This doctor has every right to limit his client-base in any way he wishes. However, in a free market economy, he may find that this hurts him financially. I find I don't really give a crap.

I don't consider any of this a "sky is falling" scenario.

Well duh. I think the same about anyone who would vote for Sarah Palin. And I actually have a point.

Just saying you think the other side are a bunch of idiots isn't an argument.

Exept you will notice I said I DIDNT think they were. I think most people from ALL political leanings dont like the health care legislation.

I work with doctors. none of them I know likes the legislation. They ALL want to see some form of reform...less hoops to jump through to get paid for providing a service, more legal protections where they dont feel they have to run a complete lab battery anytime someone comes into the ER for fear they might miss something non-related, etc. I also dont think this is a doomsday scenario. That will come when they pass univeral health care.

Considering 50+ of Americans voted for Obama he will potentially lose 50+ of his customers if they are honest with hi and he keeps to his word of not wanting to serve those that voted for Obama

I read an article that his practice is in a very conservative town. So my guess is that his patients will like him that much more. I still think it's incredibly immature and speaks horribly about this guy's professionalism.

Ah, okay. I think I see what you meant now. Sorry. Conditioned reaction.

I think that if you see this legislation as an evolving process, that might relieve some of your stress.

Sorry, I didn't read all 40 pages so I don't know if this has been posted yet...

But the doctor was interviewed recently and couldn't say what was in the bill, couldn't explain why he was against it, and admitted he hadn't read it.

You want this guy operating on you? You go right ahead.

Doctor Against Treating Obama Supporters Admits Not Knowing What’s In Health Reform Bill Alan Colmes' Liberaland

I would wager most of the people outraged about the bill don't have a clue what's in it.

I disagree with you. I don't think anyone would necessarily do it at a loss, but you are talking about a profession of helpers. The mindset and personality of people who do this kind of work places the health and happiness in a very high regard. There are plenty of folks in this field, that I know of, who CHOSE to make less money than they could because of how much they care about their patients. Not everyone, of course, but a lot. For many, money is NOT the primary mover, and it is NOT the primary motivator for excellence. For some, there are other things more important.
This is true, but the bill also risks putting many doctors in a loss situation if it isn't fixed quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Thanks Gracho, but I already brought it up a few pages back.

This doctor shall NEVER check out my junk. :rofl

Thanks for the clip! :2wave:

I feel conflicted about this.

On one hand, its a petty, unprofessional act without question. Its one thing to put your politics on display, its another to use them as a means of suggesting if someone should come into your place of business or not.

On the other hand, unlike other things this portion of politics will DIRECTLY affect his life, his livelihood, and the very practice that he has the sign up for. When politics begins to not just mildly touch your profession but forcefully and largely reach into it the notion of separating politics and business blurs greatly.

So in my mind I'd go unprofessional, and rather terse, yet understandable given the situation

Oh it can get better than that. This bill screws my industry as well, it would be fun to tell Obama voters I'm running one quote, no further effort and they can take it or leave it, my ethics ratings are through the roof, but hey, why should I save money for those who voted me a pay cut?

Stop, you don't either.

Never said I did. I am still learning what's in it. I like some of what I've learned. Hate other parts. Starting to think the public option may have been the best of it. Too bad they couldn't have worked that part out.

I am not outraged at it or do I support it yet. I can not believe all those democrats would have voted for the bill if they did not expect something good to come from it. And I do believe that the republicans are scared to death that it might be a success. Even more afraid than if it will be a failure.

I do believe the doctor that put the sign out should have done his homework so he didn't look like a fool.

What a scumbug. He swore an oath, and yet he puts pathetic partisan politics above his profession. The only saving grace is that he is screwing himself by losing out on reasonable customers. He is more than welcome to bash Obama all he likes, but it is shameful to go so far.

I'm a little late to this thread but he can choose NOT to provide services. The Orlando phone book is full of urologists; a person can easily find another. His oath would apply if there was an emergency and if he were the only doctor available.

I'd love to see the clip to see if he was embarrassed about not being able to articulate what's in the bill. What a stupid loser.

Who does know what's in the bill? Hell, even Pelosi doesn't know what's in it.

I don't know what's in the bill. As a result of such ignorance, I haven't been running around saying "I support it!" or "I'm against it!" I'd be embarrassed to make it public that I am against something that I don't even know specifically what I am against. I would expect this from an uneducated fool, but a doctor? A doctor whose wife is running for some office as a Republican? My gosh, he should be embarrassed.

Doctor, what about the bill are you against?

I don't know. I'm just against it!

Wow, that sounds really intelligent and well informed.

Considering he says he won' REFUSE anyone, your rhetoric merely drips with ignorance and hate.

He is using his God Given, constitutionally guaranteed right to Free Speech and Freedom of Association. The shameful one here, is you.
With "free" speech comes responsibility; judging from what this "doctor" has said, he has tossed this responsibility to the winds.
I am with Rathi on this one.

Well, I think he, and we, all know that the government will muck up this program and that it will cost 3x what it should, just like every other government program does.

Obama health care supporters: Florida doctor tells Obama health care supporters to go elsewhere - OrlandoSentinel.com

Now that's a smart Doc! :) I like his attitude.

He considers it bad medicine because it means he loses kickbacks from drug companies and other perks. Basically, he's an angry republican who needs to lose his license.

Who are you to judge? God?
