    Take your pick:

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.

I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.

I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.

I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.

If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

You're not talking about a field that's only going to be slightly affected to the point you can shrug it off. The adverse effects of doctors in this country long-term are going to be immense. And, as much as everyone doesn't want to hear it, this is still a for-profit business. If you do what you do because you love it and it makes you feel good, so be it. You're in the minority.
Well, while I do agree that our capitalist system is based on profit, it doesn't sit too well with me that people are making profits off of the misfortunes of others through the medical system. I'm not saying I agree with Obama's health care plan. I'm just saying that perhaps if the medical system was more about making people better and less about making a profit, it wouldn't bother me as much. However, that is clearly not the case. Doctors across the country charge people absurd amounts of money just so that they can feel better or keep in good health. There are plenty of businesses that benefit from being for-profit businesses and I applaud that. However, I don't think it's right to do that in the medical field. It's just my opinion.

I doubt aps believes it is a scientific poll. But, the thing you have to ask yourself when given any information is: 'Am I better off with this information than without it?' and then qualify your answer as necessary. I am sure aps has her own method of evaluating the worth of the information she receives.
aps said: "I'm glad my friends are professionals."

Clearly aps didn't have any illusions that it was a scientific poll, i.e. that it represented the views of anyone but those who were polled.

    Great logic.
Both sides have extremists. That was the point I was making and made it well.

I never said anyone can say mean things and it's ok.

That is simply a falsehood on your part.

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

    UPDATE: ON THE DOCTOR

It turns out this joker is pretty crappy doctor, according to his patients.

Based on 662 ratings he got 1.5 out of 4 stars on this site.

One reviewer did agree with him, though.

I agree with your sign... I also wish people would get it straight Obama is not the first black President he is a malato... ...

LOL All of those ratings were done after this "incident" occurred. Hardly representative of what kind of doctor he is.
