Yes Paranoia is a word used to explain why just about all the liberals fear a little woman from Alaska.

Asking questions of someone with a bad track record is not paranoia.

Questioning Obama's motives because of his past actions is not paranoia.

Why is Obama suddenly talking like he cares about something again when most of his action up until point the other way?

Yes. Look at his voting record in Congress and his Illinois state record. Obama is anything but a hardline liberal. I wish he were....but realistically, in todays political climate there is little chance a true liberal could be elected.

So President Obama reaching across the aisle is a bad thing now? I don't think it is a bad idea to give the Republicans something they wanted. It may not be exactly what they wanted, but at least President Obama is trying to compromise with him. Maybe on the next major bill that comes up the Republicans will be a bit more willing to compromise with the Democrats.

When is that going to happen?

I read it this AM, but all I see is partisan politics.. He is NOT doing what is necessary for America, only his hyper-partisan agenda... I wouldn't even go so far as to say this would be considered throwing a bone.. more like political cover.

If a Republican falls for this, they're even dumber than I give them credit for!

Despite the right-wings efforts to try to paint him as a "liberal", the reality is, Obama has always been a left-leaning moderate. His entire record is moderate. This issue, while I disagree with Obama on it, was part of his campaign...so anyone who is surprised by this or trying to convey ulterior motives is just not paying attention.
There's a difference between being middle ground and just flip flopping on the issue. Here's where I think he's made yet another compromise to keep the Republicans pleased. During his campaign he said that offshore drilling wasn't going to solve this problem and that he wanted to invest in renewable energy and things of that nature. I know he's very much in the center so you don't have to explain that to me, I'm just stating that he's not sticking to his ideas and how he said he wanted to address this issue.

What is a "true" liberal, then?

Mr. Obama has a long personal history with the Democratic Socialists Of America, stretching back more than a decade.
