At least seven people, including some from Michigan, have been arrested in raids by a FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana as part of an investigation into an Adrian-based Christian militia group, a person familiar with the matter said.

The suspects are expected to make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Detroit on Monday.

There was nothing in the article that states why the group was raided. However more might be posted online Monday as the people arrested are seen in court.

But but but... arresting Christians for plotting terrorism is a violation of their 1st Amendment right to freedom of religion!

One of the Hutaree members called a Michigan militia leader for assistance Saturday after federal agents had already began their raid, Lackomar said, but the militia member -- who is of Islamic decent and had heard about the threats -- declined to offer help. That Michigan militia leader is now working with federal officials to provide information on the Hutaree member for the investigation, Lackomar said Sunday.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the threats against Stupak re: abortion. I'm sure we'll see some conservatives jump in here trying to explain how these arrests are a violation of rights/Obama comin after our guns/etc. Hopefully people will remember that we don't know why these guys were arrested yet, so jumping to conclusions is silly.

edit2: The very end of the article mentions something about threats against Muslims, but fails to draw and link between that information and these arrests. I wonder if it's speculation or if that's some info the journalists actually have heard.

I noticed that but it looked like speculation and wasn't verifiable, so I didn't mention it. Also I figured more would come out about this story in a day or two anyway. The reporting sucked really, but I didn't see any better articles on it and this one seemed like it could be an important story.

So here is the big question. Were they doing violence with their guns? Were they plotting any terrorist acts? Were they taking away the rights of any other people? No, they weren't. This is yet another case of the Feds stomping on peoples' 2nd Amendment rights.

Dan, I respect the hell out of you, but in this case, you are way jumping the gun(no pun intended). Let's look at a key line in the linked story:

Detroit FBI Special Agent Sandra Berchtold told The Detroit News the federal warrants in the case are under court seal and declined further comment.

I'm having a bit of a problem with the visual of Jesus standing along side of these guys with their guns. Somehow Jesus and guns just don't jive for me.

I found this amusing, from the Michigan Militia website, right at the top.

Neither MICHIGANMILITIA.COM nor the SMVM have been "raided" by the FBI. We do nothing illegal.

I know a few Michigan militia types. Not sure if they are official members or not, but they are nuttier than hell. Take truthers, now add a whole lot of birther, throw in a ton of paranoia and a bit of inbreeding. The couple I know are really nice folks, but just plain nutty.

They probably reworked some guns to fire full auto.
I could be wrong but that is what it seems.

These people should be arrested for having such a horrible website. I'm sure that is against federal law.
