Oh, really, Apoca. how did the nation of Israel come about?

As far as Israeli ownership of East Jerusalem:

Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since 1967. It annexed the area in 1981 and sees it as its exclusive domain.

This has not been recognised by the international community. Palestinians hope to establish the capital of their future state in the East Jerusalem.

All settlements are considered illegal under international law - although Israel disputes this.

The Zionist movement has been fighting diplomatically for the establishment of Israel since the ending of the 19th century.
In 1948, at a vote in the UN involving all of the states in the world(Western and non-Western), the Jewish right to self-determination was recognized, giving a green light to David Ben-Gurion, one of the leaders of the Zionist movement at the time, to announce the Israeli independence and the establishment of a Jewish state in the land of Israel.

I don't think so. The UN does not supersede the sovereignty of the US Congress.

Birth of Judaism and Israel 1400 BCE - 586 BCE
See also: History of ancient Israel and Judah

The Israelites are generally thought to have come into existence between 1400 and 1100 BCE, developing an independent kingdom around 1050 BCE. The bible describes constant warfare with the Philistines whose capital was Gaza and a single temple in Jerusalem. Around 950 BCE, the kingdom split into a southern Kingdom of Judah and a northern Kingdom of Israel.

Biblical and Assyrian records describe how the Kingdom of Israel was destroyed by Assyrian king Tiglath-Pileser III around 720 BCE and its people sent into exile, becoming the Lost Tribes of Israel. The Samaritans claim to be descended from survivors of this destruction. The Philistine kingdom was also destroyed.

The Bible describes how a later Assyrian King, Sennacherib, tried and failed to conquer Judah (Assyrian records say he punished them and left). Assyria was eventually conquered by Babylon in 612 BCE.

We are discussing the MODERN nation of Israel. Prior to 1948, there had not been a nation of Israel for nearly 2000 years, as your source helpfully explains.
