Health-reform rally heckler says he's sorry and scared | The Columbus Dispatch

The man who berated and tossed dollar bills at a man with Parkinson's disease during a health care protest last week says he is remorseful and scared.

"I snapped. I absolutely snapped and I can't explain it any other way," said Chris Reichert of Victorian Village, in a Dispatch interview.

Good for him! While what he did was wrong. It is good that he can man up and apologize for what he did. My hope is that this incident can be put to rest.

"I wanted this to go away, but it won't and I'm paying the consequences," Reichert said.

He said he's fearful for his family after reading comments about his actions on the Internet.

"I've been looking at the web sites," he said. "People are hunting for me."

Any person who is trying to hunt this person down will possibly do a worse mistake than what this guy did in the first place. My hope is that anyone who intends to do this man harm is stopped or stops themselves.

Yes clearly this guy is the victim here.

That wasn't the point of the story. You're jumping to an invalid conclusion. Stop trolling.

What the real scary fact here is that the hateful rhetoric spouted by Tea P’ s has permeated the minds of TP camp followers to the point where they are now reacting like reptilians to whoever does not agree with their bovine excrement. It’s gotten to point where BS slogans have replaced logic and the fools are acting out to the slogans.

You mean like Bush is a Nazi? Soldiers should shoot their officers? Bring back the Lions?

I love your selective self righteousness :)

What happened was a classic example of mob psychology playing out. When one is in the midst of mobs in which passions, rhetoric and/or conduct becomes increasingly extreme, even normally rational and self-restrained persons can act out of character. Such examples, of course, are not unique to the anti-health legislation protests nor the United States.

My conclusion is that the guy is making a publicized apology and throwing in the "i'm afraid for my life" business to try and swing sympathy back towards himself. Playing the victim, if you will.

Sarcasm is not trolling, and unless you know the guy personally you can't make a definitive claim that it's invalid.

Oh - now HE'S scared. Well that's a horse of a different color.

A lot of people coming ill with no cure and definitely no money to cover their costs for treatment or even able to cover after-life costs are scared.
I actually feel for them - and am not worried for him.

No matter how passionate I am about the healthcare bill (which I opposed and will continue to do so) I am always in control of my emotions and temper - I'd never take it out on the doctors or the patients because this hellish drama isn't because of THEM.

So he's apologetic because he's discovered that people are hunting for him?

I hope he gets "found".

That is over the top. Sure, people should know the kind of mentality that drives mob rule, but to wish someone who got caught up in mob mentality any kind of harm makes you no better than he is. Actually, it makes you worse, since all he did was throw dollar bills at a Parkinson's patient, which is despicable, but you seem to be telling us that you want him hunted down and killed.

You know, everybody here knows how I feel about "teabaggers", but to be quite honest, compared to what you are advocating, I wouldn't mind sitting down and having a cup of tea with them.

Hatred works both ways, you know. Maybe you should just stop and think a minute or two, so you can realize what you just said. If you can't do that, then I don't believe you are in any kind of position to criticize this guy. Like Christ said, there are plenty of people who point out the mote in the eyes of others, while ignoring the beam in their own eye.

actually he was found

the jerk saw himself and is ashamed of what he saw

he now sounds contrite

while he is not a victim, he does deserve an opportunity to demonstrate by his subsequent actions that he has figured this out

What the guy did was absolutely wrong and dispicable. I applaud the OP and Justabubba for being relatively human, objective, and non-hypocritical in not condoning what he's done but acknowledging its just as bad if he's getting threats and other sort of things as anyoen else.

To those that are cheering on him being "hunted" or saying he deserves what he's getting, could we maybe get a list of what things you think are worthy of being harassed and/or threatened? Some of those in this thread complaining about it seem to be the same sort who complained about some lunatics reportedly shouting obsenities, or the attrocity in Virginia, both of which are wrong, and yet because this guy did something admittedly horrible (though in no way physically damaging) somehow he should be "hunted" down? Forgive me if I don't believe your attempted acts of "compassion" the least bit, it makes it obvious its all politics for you.

Sometimes a person's actions cross the line to the point where I (a mortal sinner) cannot except their apology. Especially when the apology seems to stem from their own fear, instead of a change of heart. Let him be found. Killing him would be going too far. Just bruise him a little.

Wow, advocating criminal behavior. This forum is really going downhill tolerating this kind of poster.

Yeah -- let's beat someone up because he yelled at a guy and tossed dollar bills in his direction. What is the problem with you people?

The guy was a 60 year-old nuclear engineer who chose to give the anti-obamacare crowd a piece of his mind.

I think he can f'ing take care of himself - he doesn't need you or anyone else acting like he is some kind of mentally retarded child in need of your protection. Jeez.

You know, wishing harm on people we disagree with is not very helpful on either side of the aisle. "I hope he gets found" isn't any better than all the gun-related rhetoric we're seeing from the right.

It is in fact a response to the other side. There are consequences for what we do.

I don't just disagree with the man in the OP. I despise him. Too bad. He should have thought out his moves beforehand.

If you're using that line of logic then you could say the actions of today are the repressed anger from the actions of war protestors or even more recently reaction to union members at the town hlls.

And on and on...

One guy being a jackass doesn't mean you're right for advocating actual, legitimate, physical violence against him.

Oh noes the left-wing is advocating organized violence

LIBERALS = TERRORISM

If the guy is going to make a fool out of himself by heckling a person, then they shouldn't be surprised when they themselves get heckled.

Further than that though, I don't condone "hunting" him down or threatening him in any manner. That is just stupid IMO and doesn't serve good to any cause or person.

Perhaps he's sincerely contrite and deeply ashamed of his disgusting display, but I find that pretty hard to believe. Perhaps he's playing the "Oh poor me" victim card, I can't really say.

What I can say is I have about the same amount of compassion for this Americans for Prosperity jackass that he had for the man with Parkinson's disease.

Karma's a bitch, man.

Not surprisingly, I can find NO mention of the incident, and certainly no condemnation of this man's actions, on the Americans for Prosperity website.

Stay classy, Americans for Prosperity.

Yep because conservatives NEVER EVER threaten someone with harm over exercising the first amendment........oh yeah unless of course someone is burning the U.S. flag, then it is ok to threaten.
