Ban smoking in all vehicles, doctors demand

You're right. They should just throw them in YOUR car.

If it gets them to stop littering, sure! I'd create a special receptacle in my car for that.

There are places now that will come after mom if she smokes in her own home and towns in California where if you smoke in your own back yard and your neighbor complains you can be fined.

San Diego band smoking on all beaches.

It's out of control Nanny State BS.
NYC has an idiot who wants to ban salt use in all restaurants. Come on people sooner or later this crap has got to stop.

What happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave.

We have become the land of the fee and the home of the slave.

Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.

Now you're talkin. I smoke 2 packs a week on average. Not a super heavy smoker but I smoke. I do not smoke in my house. I do not smoke in my car. I field dress every cig I smoke and put the butt in the trash ( for the unfamiliar, you roll the cig between your fingers and the cherry falls off).

I grew up in the forest and do not like to see litter. When I play golf (4-5 times a week), I pick up every butt I see. At the end of most 18 hole rounds I have at least 2 handfuls of butts accumulated in a dedicated pocket in my bag. And this is at the country club, it's at the junk municipal course, it's out at the casino courses. It's everywhere. Oh and I should mention that there is a city wide ban on smoking in all city parks and "outdoor public areas".

Point is you can sit here and complain about people people smoking. You can try to ban them from smoking everywhere you go. In the end, there will always be jerks that litter and people who break your silly smoking laws. There will always be jerks that are inconsiderate and don't think of others. Smoking itself is not the actual problem... and trying to infringe on someones right to do what they wish with their own body, in hopes of fixing what amounts to a "litter" problem, is shortsighted at best.

As far as a full on smoking in the car ban goes, good luck enforcing it.

See bold above. Thank you! I wish there were more smokers like you. I can count on one hand how many people I have seen properly dispose of their cigarette butts in the last year.

Good. Smoking should be banned in ALL public places as well as places where your smoke invades the private space of others.

This is absurd, and frankly, it is not the same issue as smoking. Banning smoking protects the legitimate rights of non-smokers. Banning salt in restaurants is just plain DUMB!!! Someone should tell them that many historians believe the civilization known as Great Zimbabwe may well have fallen due to a LACK of salt...

What happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Went out when too many people forgot about the notion of "personal responsibility" and "respecting the rights of others"

I would like to know the sodium content of the food I'm ingesting though considering for my condition it is extremely bad for my health. I'm on a restricted diet of 2000mg of salt per day.

Yeah, but knowing is different than regulating or banning.

It would take regulation like it has in the past with food labeling for this knowledge to be public.

And this is a real pisser of mine. When I first went of the diet my girlfriend got fooled. she bought what she thought was diet low sodium salami. The nutritional info was printed in red on clear plastic with the red meat as the background. Even I was fooled and thought it was 37 mgs of sodium with the red on red it was really 375mgs of sodium. I put on about 10 lbs in fluid retention overnight and was almost hospitalized again.

That's not the same thing.

Regulating the content is not the same as regulating what should be known about the content.

If they merely regulated labels and required the content to be researched and made known then no one would really be complaining.

I can understand the sentiment where young children are concerned as they have no right to refuse to enter but this is a step too far. Not only is the idea of a ban in private space totally idiotic but hugely unenforcible - and I'm not a smoker..

Nope...government can say what they want. Ban smoking altogether. Think of the children...

people are already complaining about the new regs for restaurants to publish nutritional info on their menus.

I don't have a problem with that, many consumers do have health problems and they should have available information......but my agreement stops at informing consumers, not regulating things to "protect" every single person for x reason.

I'm not, though - that's one thing I do support. If I'm going to buy it and eat it I'd like to know what's in it.

It's unlikely to stop anyone in mass number from eating it, though, but will allow those who are concerned with what they eat to make a more informed decision.
McD's, Subway, etc, provide nutritional info - and it hasn't really hurt their business, imho.

I'm a little bit torn on the issue because of places that rotate menus, change menus often. Places that basically have something like a chalk board menu that changes often if not daily.

Catch ya later I gotta go get my warfarin blood test.

They should still test and know, roughly, what's in each dish.

enough of that, though, we're hijacked the thread.
