Stephen Lynch calls health care vote plan ‘disingenuous’

Stephen Lynch calls health care vote plan ‘disingenuous’ - BostonHerald.com

Even one of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s floor whips, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, says a proposed parliamentary move to pass health-care reform would be “disingenuous” and harm the credibility of Congress.

In a sign of how tough it’s been for Pelosi to round up votes for the massive bill, Lynch - a South Boston Democrat who supported a House reform package last year - said he’ll probably vote against a key Senate version of the legislation, unless unexpected major changes are made soon.

Lynch, who serves as one of Pelosi’s key vote counters, said he also can’t support a proposed “deem and pass” procedure that would allow Democrats to vote to strip out controversial portions of the Senate bill and then “deem” that the entire package has passed without a second, direct vote.

good for him. Good for him standing for the Consitution and against the attempted unconstituional runaround by Pelosi!

If you saw the Obama lie fest on Fox yesterday where he proudly said he has basically no interest in the process you saw the birth of dictatorial style Government where the will of the people is absolutely meaningless.

This phony Health care Plan includes the Federal Government take over of the much more then health care.

Have heard this yet: Effective April 16, Walgreens drugstores across the state won't take any new Medicaid patients, saying that filling their prescriptions is a money-losing proposition — the latest development in an ongoing dispute over Medicaid reimbursement.

I know this is a lot to grasp but we have to grab hold of our liberty while we still have it or say goodbye for ever, until the next revolution.

Constitutional experts say the process is constitutional, if it follows the prescribed formula. Also, federal courts have decided the bill has been passed when the Senate Leader and House Speaker attest to that effect.

Which constitutional experts specifically? Every single credible constitutional scholarly opinion I've read on on this states this process would not hold up against a SCOTUS challenge. There are already about 32 challenges being written by constitutional lawyers and will be filed the minute this bill is "deemed" to be passed, these challenges wouldn't be filed so soon if this process was constitutional.

And Rev. I agree with you. Lynch did the right thing.

If the "will of the people" really mattered to the Regressives, they would be behind the public option or maybe even single payer. A substantial part of the negatives are because most liberals think the bill has been diluted below effectiveness, and the independents just hate the process, not the bill. If you drill down on the numbers, true health care reform is really popular.

The "process" really is not a concern of the president, its the job of the congress to figure out how to get legislation done, not the president. That all said, the deem and pass is far more about form than substance, as the house has to make a vote on the matter.

So exactly what is the federal government taking over? There is no single payer, there is no public option, there is no take over of insurance.... this bill is largely regulatory.. What do you think the government is taking over? Not much. If anything, further entrenches the interests of for-profit health insurance companies as in control of 1/6 of our economy.

The fact that health care is such a huge part of our economy is rarely discussed, but is the crux of the issue..... something must be done, we spend more on this than any other first world country, with questionable comparative results. Its hard to intelligently argue against the need for reform. The Regressives have had congress for a long time and plenty of opportunity to take the bull by the horns. They also could have participated in constructive change.

Let it go. Its time to move on. Health care reform is going to pass and will be the law of the land. Its about time.

**** no I'm not "letting this go" this is unconstitutional in all aspects and the bill is a turd.

Which "constitutional experts"? :lamo

I'd like you back up your support for the current bill with facts.
I'm starting to think that there are two camps in the solidly pro-Obamacare debate, partisans and activists. The partisans like it because the wicked witch of the west, aka Princess Pelosi told them it's good, then there are the activists who just want the government to take more money from people and then takeover the health industry and give away services. Depending on the camp the facts will begin and end with either "because the Democrat party said so" or "I really want it and it's time has come, so shut up and accept it". Outside of those two responses, those should be about the extent of the facts.

Completely agree, I'm getting tired of the partisan crap.
I read the comments on Yahoo, Politco etc and the supporters are parroting the same damn thing over and over again.

I'm tired of the excuse that "a majority wants it," "it's democracy," and all the other inane, empty sayings that supporters keep going on about.
Most of these people don't know jack **** about how medical care works and have no clue about policy analysis.

If you support the current bill, you better be damned able to defend it with facts.

No, they've basically found a way to admit defeat without admitting defeat.

IF Nancy can get this done, which is still a big 'if', it's going to get challenged by more than half the states as constitutional, which will tie up the bill until the really, really pissed off voters give both houses back to the Republicans in November, at which time they can kill it for good.

This nonsense is just a way for Pelosi to pseudo claim victory and blame everything on the GOP. It's transparent, but then again, so is she, Obama, and Reid in everything but their actions.

I'm not sure what you are asking for here, as I am only giving you my assessment of the political condition of this vote, not arguing the merits of the bill.

I actually don't like the bill at all. I think the Regressives and the Dems have worked in tandem to create a very, very bad bill. I believe very strongly in the need for healthcare reform, as the current system clearly does not work. Healthcare is a bigger part of our economy than that of any other first world country, yet our healthcare system is ranked no better than 29th (WHO).

The pity in all this is that the parties could have worked together to take a stab at actually solving a major problem, or at least driving the issue in the right direction. Instead, we got a ton of political gamesmanship. The Republicans decided that this '......could be Obama's Waterloo, if they could beat him on this, they could break him....' Instead of respecting their role as the minority party, which would be to help shape the policy of majority

As political matter, however, it must be passed. The dems have staked much on this. The Reps, rather than shaping the bill, chose instead to paint the Dems into the corner... and, given their desperation, have to go to extreme measures to get something done.

Kudos to the Repubs... you got what you wanted: a watered down, meaningless bill and the Dems looking like Washington insiders... taking the power grab and looking corrupt. Fortunately this will be behind us come election day, but much damage has been done to all and we really didn't get any real reform either.

For those keeping score at home: Repubs 1, Dems 0

When will we get off this polarization of politics? This is a much greater threat to America than Arab terrorists.

I don't see how you could call it watered down.

There are a great many shake ups the will change the way we consume medical care in the very near future.
Increased taxes and an increase in overall medical consumption.

It's pretty destructive, more so than doing nothing.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding this information, if you look at non-right-wing sources. I'll dig up that article I read when I get a chance later.

Obama's socialist health care program may be approved tomorrow by the slime ball dems but it will never pass the stink test in the SCOTUS.... No where in the U.S. Constitution does it say that you have to have health insurance and you can not be forced to buy it...37 states are already filing law suits against Obama Care.....

Thank God this piece of crap will be thrown out.........

If you keep calling it socialist, maybe it will actually change reality.

A mandate to purchase health insurance from private companies is just nowhere near socialism, NP. I'm sorry, you're just wrong.

The constitution doesn't say murder is illegal either, you don't seem to understand how that document works. Kinda disappointing, given your military service.

It's actually more similar to economic fascism.
