I don't care about the prankster, I care that people somehow think this was a laugh riot. I think about what if one of my family members were in the store, funny as hell, right?

What he did was beyond tasteless, it was pretty loathsome.

I guess you just had to grow up in it, to understand it.

I am certainly not saying this. I am saying to those who think it was funny, and said to those offended they need to "get over it" or are to "tightly wound" need to realize why this is unacceptable.

And my thing, BD, is that it was so absurdly unacceptable that the only appropriate response was to laugh AT the idiot, not WITH the idiot.

Ive never had leprosy, but I get that it sucks...

Point is I dont think you have to have experienced racism to understand it. At some time we ALL have experienced SOME form of discrimination.

Im trying to relate the maker of the comment to people that I personally know that would make such a comment. I can. I can even see them thinking it was funny and being absolutely shocked if someone accused them of being racist. Jerry IS right...this isnt an incident worthy of hysteria...and people are already talking about arrests and prosecutions and lawsuits. Certainly we can differ in opinions about whether or not it was funny (it wasnt...everyone else is WRONG...because I SAY SO!).

There was a recent thread about the use of the infamous 'n' word. I find it a LITTLE ironic that people that are SO upset that they are talking LAWSUITS against WalMart (look at some of the videos) are likely to defend the use of the word nigger even in a derogitory manner when it comes from the mouths of black people. Maybe THATS why there is so much division on this...because the messages are so consistently inconsistent.

Re: "All Black People" Asked to Leave S. Jersey Wal-Mart

When I worked at LL Bean, someone found an ugly green hat and brought it up to the register. I announced on the PA that a green hat had been found in the women's dept and the owner could pick it up there.

5 minutes later, I brought it downstairs to the men's dept and told them I found a hat in their dept. The clerk got on the intercom and announced that a green hat had been found in the men's dept and the owner cold pick it up there.

5 minutes later, I went back to the men's dept and said I know where the hat belongs and took it over to the camping dept. I told the girl at the register that I found this green hat in her dept. She announced that a green hat .... blah blah blah.

I did this all morning until people were groaning everytime they heard the loudspeaker come on. My friend and I neearly pissed our pants laughing over this stupid green hat. I imagine the dork who lost the hat was probably pretty pissed off going around LL Bean from dept to dept looking for his hat.

It was just stupid enough to be funny.

The absurdity of the black people thing made me laugh when I read it, but as I said upthread, I'd have just stood there with my mouth open were I in the store at the time. I'd probably have looked around to see what other reactions were to guage whether or not it was serious. However, if someone had said "all soccer moms must leave the store," I'd have cracked up laughing.

Blackdog, I'm sorry this brings up difficult memories for you.

Now...heres the scary part...what happens if this turns out to be a black person that said it (like the noose incident in San Diego less than a month ago). It will be very interesting to see! maybe once the individual is caught we will know more if this was an outright racist comment, a kid trying to be funny, or whatever!

What I'd like to know is how are those who took offense to this racist act the punch line? I mean, if the situation was reversed I think most white people would take offense as well. So, how is it that those who are now boycotting suddenly the people in the wrong here? Granted, as I understand the situation it wasn't Walmart's fault, but the incident happened in one of their stores so they have to take responsibility for it, right or wrong. Regardless, how are those who are boycotting that or any other Walmart store now in the wrong for showing their displeasure for standig up against a racist act?

Overkill? Maybe...but that still doesn't place the victims of racism in the wrong.
So people boycotting a store that was in now way responsible for what happened is somehow okay? I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous, except to those that live in perpetual victimhood, I guess. If these people really wish to express their offendedness over this stupid joke, let them boycott the house of the moron that did it. Otherwise, the boycotters just look like crybabies and more than a little foolish.

Laughing at the absurdity is one thing, but you know as well as I do not everyone was laughing at that.

Well I can't speak for them. I can only speak for me. My laughter would have been directed at the guy on the intercom and maybe at the hysteria going on around me.

As for that incident on the tram with me, Rosa Parks, and the family behind me, that was funny mainly because I have this comical tendancy to ram my foot down my throat sometimes because I am a bawdy, irreverent snot and it bites me in the ass once in a while.
