[QUOTE=1069;1058625408]If children laughed, it was no doubt out of confusion, discomfort, and fear.
As a parent, I can't imagine having to explain that one.

"It was supposed to be a joke."
"But why is it funny? I don't get it."[/
    QUOTE]

That has kinda been my response. IF it was supposed to be a joke it obviously wasnt very funny.

I really DONT understand how anyone could consider the event 'funny' and I have a pretty seriously dark sense of humor...

Still...people are what people are...and SOME people (of EVERY race) are ignorant and racist and make stupid comments. (referring to the person making the comment at WalMart). On reflection...I have a nephew that I could EASILY see being the culprit here...and it wouldnt have been 'racist' to him...just a product of an immature sense of humor and a lack of a developed frontal lobe to filter out right and wrong choices.

Re: "All Black People" Asked to Leave S. Jersey Wal-Mart

My friend Poncho (black man, ex-marine, who does building maintenance on Thursdays) came into my office this morning with a newspaper. He said "do you want to read something hilarious"? Then he flipped open the paper to the "Walmart incident".

We both laughed. I told him I heard about it yesterday. We laughed again. It's just silly business.

I do have a concern about black children who may have been puzzled, and their parents struggling for a response to them. I have a Mulatto grand-daughter that's 11. I would have hated to have to explain the joke to her. But, I think that I would have been able to at her current age.

Hey, it's a lot better than the Cracker Barrel and Denny's episodes of the recent past. They were serious.

The people who are boycotting the store and coming here, getting all bent out of shape over a prank, are the punch line.

You're hysteria is what makes this funny.

    for the record...

People that express 'approval' and think it is 'funny'...just good natured folk.

People that disagree (and I dont think anyone has advocated grabbing up pitch forks and torches or called for a boycott) and dont think it was funny..."getting all bent out of shape...hysteria..."

    okiedokie then...

I wasn't there, so I don't know the level of "funny". I know my first reaction wasn't laughing and it wasn't anger...it was, "What the hell is wrong with people - way to look like an idiot".

I'm sure it was someone playing what they saw was a prank, but I've always found it odd that normally the people that pull pranks like this are the first ones to get their skivies in a knot when the tables are turned.

It's only funny if they aren't talking about you - kind of thing.
Fool me once, shame on you.
    Fool me twice....shame on me.

I actually would have found it even funnier if they HAD been talking about me.

If they would have said, "All the mouthy, slutty bitches leave the store." I would have LOL'd

    Huh.

I guess it's all in the delivery. When you hear the above joke in your head, are you imagining the voice of George Carlin or David Cross or somebody?

It's just the absurdity of the whole situation that makes it amusing. It's the fact that you KNOW they can't be serious that makes one realize that it's a ****ing joke. It's the ability to laugh at oneself that makes it amusing. It's the ability to laugh at absurdity. The ability to take a joke. The tendency to NOT be so ****ing serious and be offended at everything that makes it amusing.

In my scenario and armed with Jerry's info regarding the ease of use of the intercoms, I would have considered a retaliation. picking up the phone and saying something along the lines of "On behalf of all of the mouthy, slutty bitches here, come and make us." Or maybe, "Grouping up all of the sluts isn't going to increase your chances of getting laid."

Anywho... Every-****ing-person in this country KNOWS that 'blacks leave the store' could NOT have been an official message from Wal-Mart. We ALL KNOW this. Therefore, it was a prank. That would have been immediately evident anyone with a ****ing brain. Armed with that knowledge, it's quite easy to find humor in it.
