House may try to pass Senate health-care bill without voting on it
I have no doubt the Mods will move this posting claiming either it is not from a reputable source (which fact I concur)
Or they will claim it is not breaking news.

I am posting this story because I would like to know how other people feel about what I see as a deliberate attempt to circumnavigate what small amount of Democracy remains in the USA.

Good. It's about time the Democrats grew some stones, kicked the Party of No out of the way and got done what needed to be done.

the "without voting" on it part, doesn't bother you?

Oh, so breaking protocol and most probably the law is fine as long as you agree with the issue? Do you want to go on the record as saying that?

At this point, I dont care. I just want to see some progress made on the healthcare problem.

Hey it was ok the last 8 years.

the slaughter solution can't be done, it's impossible

it is also PROOF the speaker doesn't have the votes

if she did why would she threaten to move it without them

"nobody wants to vote for the senate bill," nancy pelosi, ides of march, 2010

what ms slaughter is saying is very inside baseball---by writing up a reconciliation in spratt's budget committee that uses lots of language just presuming that the reid bill had already past, assuming it, talking about reid in the past tense, operating on the premise that reid is signed law...

slaughter is saying that by writing up such a reconciliation and then getting members to ASSENT to it, then that act in itself ENDORSES all those conspicuous presuppositions in the LANGUAGE of spratt...

and leadership can then DEEM the bill passed based on membership's having taken action dependent on the presumption of reid

it's patently absurd

nancy doesn't have the votes, she's never gonna get the votes

and slaughter cannot stand, all stuff and nonsense

Fine, hope you know because it breaks protocol, it'll go to the courts.

Im afraid you can't use that as an excuse....sorry.

From your own source:

"The tactic -- known as a "self-executing rule" or a "deem and pass" -- has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill."

They are still voting on the bill. They are voting on a bill that approves the bill. If someone doesn't like the bill all they need to do is vote against it. There is nothing illegal.

Right wingers will cry about anything, lol.

Get over it.

I have not discussed the Legality of passing Legislation as momentous as this with such a rule as 'deem and pass', personally I do not have the knowledge to argue such.

I merely question the wisdom of passing such 'momentous legislation' by using such a method.
To me it smacks very much of non representative rule, but doubtless you are of a differing opinion.

right wingers are hardly crying

we're jumping for joy for our huge political victory!

someone around here is as tone deaf as our large lobed loser of a president

health care is dead

she doesn't have the votes

obama's is the incredibly already irrelevant administration

why was it he cancelled his trip to guam, again?

LOL!

This bill is only going to make things worse. You are backing the wrong horse.
Y'know, I dont give a damn anymore, I really dont. I wish I could say I do but I just really dont. I'm so sick of people WITH health insurance crying about how we dont NEED to fix the system, there's nothing WRONG with it! At this point I really dont care anymore, I want something to happen, I want to know that I can go to the hospital without worrying about "Are they going to kick me out because I have no health insurance?" or that I'm going to get a med student for a doctor because I cant pay. Walk into a hospital with no insurance, it's a REAL eye opening experience let me tell you.

Examples?
Warrantless wiretapping, PATRIOT, for starters.

LEVERAGED through
We're not talking about leverage, we're talking about a huge ass bill being squeezed through without even a vote! :doh

If you support this, then you should support the republicans using this process with every single fcking bill, because their going to do that after they take back the house and the senate.

They dont care how the bill is passed, so long as it is passed.
The ends justify the means, see...

You do know that the -only- thing holding up the bill is the unwillingness of DEMS to vote 'yes', right?

Or, is partisan bigotry more important to you than the truth?

with all due respect, YOUR understandable and almost uncontainable frustration is NOT justification enough for the entire nation to undergo such radical reform of 1/6 of everything via so FLIMSY a process, methodology, procedure...

in addition, if nancy can't find members sufficiently unafraid of voters at home to pass the SENATE BILL, she will come up even shorter on this DEEM, damnable as IT is sure to be DEEMED even by DEMS back in the wards

think about it

we are looking at a leadership so lost in desperation it can't see straight, which all starts at the top

the ny times yesterday referred to health care as "obama's sick obsesssion"

it's making YOU sick, i sympathize

america wants this thing buried, months ago

in normal political perspectives, we wouldn't be talking about this

but obama just won't let his sick little obsession go

sorry

My hope is it gets DEEMED, found unconstitutional in a few years and that'll put the last nail in the coffin. Otherwise, if Dems actually vote for it and it passes ... it'll be worse.

At this point, the only option Obama and Pelosi have is to agree to reconcile the bill after the bill and try to win approval, then STAB THOSE DEMOCRATS IN THE BACKS AFTER OBAMA SIGNS IT, and never take it to reconciliation.

If it goes to reconciliation, the Republicans can propose as many amendments as they want to and stall it until the November elections.

The only way Pelosi and Obama can save any face is to put it in reconciliation, then blame the Republicans for obstructing the bill. But I don't think the Democrats TRUST Obama and Pelosi to actually do what they said they'd do and reconcile after the fact.

All this time spent on healthcare with nothing to show for it. Meahwhile, unemployment spiralled out of control while Obama obsessed over his pet project.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned, as I recall.

It needs to again be made clear that the only reason the bill hasn't been passed in the house is that DEMS wont vote for it because their constituants do not want it; all of the ideas floated to pass the bill through 'creative means' illustrates the Dem leadership's desire to pass a bill by any and every means possible, the opinion of the Americna people notwitstanding.

After all, the ends justify the means.

MOST of us are fine with an intelligent fix to healthcare. For starters...fix medicare/Medicaid. Medicaid EXISTS to help those that cant help themselves. Obama says its abused to the tune of 80 BILLION annually. If they cant fix that then what on EARTH makes you or anyone think they can run a federal health care plan?

Do you HONESTLY trust the federal government to run health care? Do you trust them to NOT put a bunch of NON healthcare related pork in the legislation?

And BTW...even though you may not LIKE the patriot act, it was passed...by BOTH parties...and the dem controlled house, senate, and president just extended it. Who is the partisan here?

They've already put a student-aid bill in this healthcare bill and extended the Nebraska kickback to all 50 states. With all the backroom arm-twisting going on right now, I shudder to think what else is being added.

I've never seen such a den of thieves as this leadership. It's like giving the reins to Al Capone and his cronies.

Illinois politics at its best. We saw how Rahm and Blago play the game. And isnt it funny that an adminstration that was so against lobbyists has BECOME the primary lobby.
