I'll have to look up some history regarding the war, but East Jerusalem certainly does not belong to the Palestinians and should be completely Israel's.
I stated my understanding of the history of Israel above. Feel free to correct me if I mis-stated.

Jarusalem and the surrounding area is considered holy to the Jewish, Christian and Islamic religions... why should the Jews supersede all other religions?

Agreed. I think the US should let Israel sink or swim. We have let them become our problem long enough. We should wish them the best of luck and then cut the umbilical cord.

The chance to make Jerusalem a center for peace and tolerance is being passed up. Make it like a "Washington, DC." Not a part of any state but a center for all.

does that mean we can stop sending them guns and money while bribing their enemies to leave them alone?
And why does your tone suggest that you do not care about children?

There was suspicion that Obama is a closet anti-Semite, he then reached out to the powerful Jewish community and they ended up rallying around him.

Now, Israeli/US relations are in the toilet. Is this because of Israeli actions alone, or is it because of the Muslim-loving US president, who has a dislike for Jews and Israel?
There where suspicions from who? I followed the election and don't even remember such an asinine claim made by any one credible. I am sure some far right wackos might have thought so, but I doubt any one else did.

"Muslim-loving". You are being sarcastic here I trust, or making a joke in some way.

The Jewish Yishuv and Zionism(The political movement for the establishment of Israel) has existed in Ottoman and later on British Mandate Palestine since the 19th century.
The Balfour declaration, for example, was written 34 years before the Final Solution.

There's no doubt that the Holocaust has played a part in the establishment of the Jewish state - and rightfully so - but it is certainly not the absolute reason.
A long war then ensued between the Jews and the surrounding countries (Iraq, Egypt, Iran, etc) over control of the area because the Palestinians did not agree that the area should be given exclusively to the Jews...
Not entirely correct, the Palestinian Arabs didn't want to share the land with the Palestinian Jews, and the land was not given exclusively to the Jews but was planned to be divided between Palestinian Arabs and Palestinian Jews.
and the Jews held off the invading forces. After that they expanded their control over the area, taking more Palestinian land, and today we have the state of Israel, and a continuing war in the area.
You mean, after the war started on Israel where the day-old fledgling state has managed to overcome its many invaders (from within and outside), Israel has faced some other wars that were called on it by its neighboring states.
Though I do believe that the Jews do have a right to land where they are free from oppression, I do not believe the choice the Brits made was the right one. The area should have been shared between the Jews and the Palestinians.
    It was, initially.
The Partition plan, the final international community voted agreement on the issue, has included both an Arab and a Jewish state.
That was opposed by the Palestinian Arabs, and hence they have first started a civil war, and after Israel was established, were backed by 5 invading Arab nations.

What parts of the criticism do you believe are valid? I think that your perspective will be a useful learning tool for some of the Israelis on the forum who believe that the U.S. should always support Israel in everything, no questions asked.
