Obama-backed website on government spending is found lacking - latimes.com

A Government Accountability Office audit released Friday found broad compliance with the law establishing [USAspending.gov]. But in some cases, information was missing or unreliable, the GAO said.

"Not everything that should have been reported was reported, and that which was reported was not always accurate," David Powner, the GAO official who led the audit, said in an interview.

The audit of USAspending.gov covered the period from June 2009 to March 2010. A total of nine federal agencies failed to report 15 government contracts, the audit showed.

After reviewing 100 federal contracts, the GAO also found "widespread inconsistencies" in what appeared on the website and what was contained in records provided by the agencies. Auditors, for example, found discrepancies in where the work took place and the purpose of the contracts.

The OMB also did not include information on subcontracts, which was required under the bill advanced by then-senator Obama and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.). Nor does the OMB "have a plan or process in place" for including such information, the report said.

Former President Bush signed the measure into law in September 2006, and the website was up and running in December 2007.

The audit said the OMB largely agreed with the findings.

When the website was launched, Obama made a Senate statement casting it as a victory for open government.

Some comments, if I may:

1. It's incompetence, at the very least.

2. It recalls recovery.gov which botched so embarrassingly all that STIMULUS data.

3. All those phantom jobs and districts, story after story from all around the country.

4. It recalls Obama's pledge to put all his health care on CSPAN which became such a humiliation for the White House.

5. A few might flashback to flag@whitehouse.gov which asked Americans to give up names and addresses of neighbors they may have overheard express "fishy thoughts."

6. At the worst it smacks of corruption on a cresting scale.

7. One wonders if these "widespread inconsistencies" were random, if their omissions sometimes helped Obama's bottom line, sometimes hurt.

8. LOL!

9. We sure saw EARL DEVANEY leaning strongly one way.

10. Even if its innocent it paints up the president's COMPLETE FAILURE to EXPLAIN these things to the public, to ACCOUNT for all his spending, whether its justified or not.

11. I think observers from all sides of the aisle can agree the president has done a pretty piss poor job of communicating some awfully IMPORTANT DETAILS to the American people.

12. Heck, THAT'S WHAT HE SAYS.

13. HE'S the guy who claims---AS HIS EXCUSE---that his failure to communicate health care to the electorate is what has set back HIS SIGNATURE ISSUE.

14. It's also just another example of the widening public discrepancy between Obama the campaigner and the less than forthright fella he's become.

15. In any case, he again, as daily, demonstrates why the most seasoned observers of events see this obtuse bumbler as, hands down, by far, the most incompetent politician at this level yet to appear on a TV.

No surprise here. It's more newsworthy if they found the information to be complete and accurate... but lacking and inaccurate. Say it isn't so!

Our government can't even run a website worth a flip, and yet there are people who are willing to turn over 1/6 of our economy to them to run the countries health care? :rofl

As I read the story there are questions that arise from such statements as;

And they do beg a further investigation to determine if they was more going on than simply not keeping up with reporting requirements.

Obama has a proven track record of lying and is generally the tip of the iceberg when it comes political shenanigans, and we always have to keep in mind all the questionable characters even convicts Obama likes to have around in his misadministration.

Indeed. Got to bear in mind those convicts.

Lets start with a list: how many people in the Obama Administration have been convicted in court for a crime?
