Lil Wayne Begins 1-Year Jail Term in NYC Gun Case

After saying goodbye on concert stages and online video streams, Lil Wayne had nothing to add as he was sentenced Monday to a year in jail for having a loaded gun on his tour bus.

The Grammy Award-winning rapper delivered only a brief bow to fans and supporters as he was led out of a courtroom in handcuffs to start serving his sentence.

With that, Lil Wayne headed off to face his punishment in a case that had shadowed him as he became one of music's most prolific and profitable figures in recent years. Arrested in July 2007, he pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted he had the loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his bus.
    IMHO, the sentence was ridiculous.

Hey Weezy. After you get out of jail, come to Houston, where you will be welcome, and you will also get to carry your gun without fear of going to jail. And, if someone tries to break into your tour bus, feel free to blow his ass away.

I actually don't think he'll be able to carry, even in TX. He's now a convicted felon.
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Agreed. Also, anyone know if sentencing has ever before been delayed due to 'grill remodeling'?

I think it is utterly ridiculous to sentence someone to jail for something they have a constitutional right to. What next sentence someone to jail because they said something someone didn't like or because they went to a oddball church?
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

Depends. In Texas, convicted felons can file a form to get their rights restored. I know a fellow musician who went to prison for 2 years on a marijuana conviction, but had his rights restored within 5 years after he got out. He now has a concealed carry license. Each case in Texas is looked at differently, depending on the circumstances. All the ex-felon has to do is file a request for restoration of rights.

I hope he mixes a new record while in Jail.

.... I don't understand conservatives when it comes to rap music. All the conservatives go on FOX News saying it is bad because it is offensive to women, children and whoever the other poster child is and promotes violence. But a rapper gets put in jail for having a gun even though 90% of his lyrics are about killing people and now he'll be welcomed in Texas? LOLwut?
