President Obama's advisers are nearing a recommendation that Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, be prosecuted in a military tribunal, administration officials said, a step that would reverse Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.'s plan to try him in civilian court in New York City.

The president's advisers feel increasingly hemmed in by bipartisan opposition to a federal trial in New York and demands, mainly from Republicans, that Mohammed and his accused co-conspirators remain under military jurisdiction, officials said. While Obama has favored trying some terrorism suspects in civilian courts as a symbol of U.S. commitment to the rule of law, critics have said military tribunals are the appropriate venue for those accused of attacking the United States.

If Obama accepts the likely recommendation of his advisers, the White House may be able to secure from Congress the funding and legal authority it needs to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and replace it with a facility within the United States. The administration has failed to meet a self-imposed one-year deadline to close Guantanamo

This is heartening news. If we've already decided that KSM is going to be detained for the rest of his life regardless of verdict, then why bother going through the motions of a formal trial that would cost hundreds of millions and damage the integrity of the judicial system?

Reality slaps Obama and the far left on the nuts once again.

Actually, Obama has decreed that KSM will be executed.

Yet another massive flip flop, yet another redeeming policy to add to Bush's legacy, yet another issue where the Left will deafen us with their silence.

Now....next step....where will the trials be held..where will any incarceration be sentenced...what and where and how to do, all of these questions are still out there and.........Gitmo answers every one of them.

Going on 14 months, prisoners still sit in Gitmo. 14 months, the prison at Bagram continues to be expanded.

Reaction from those who were supposedly so outraged by these policies:

Okay, where are the liberals? This has got to have them in convulsions. Obama is an idiot.....Bush warned him about making stupid campaign promises.

Because we're America and people get trials here.

Military tribunals ARE trials, what did you think they were....lynchings?

Or military tribunal. And, not if they're captured abroad by our military.

I prefer trials in civilian courts. Shows these maniacs that America isn't going to compromise its core values for anything.

I guess FDR and anyone else who had tribunals didn't have core values, right?

KSM wasnt captured abroad by our military. Of the 3 tribunals Bush had in 8 years 2 guys are already out.

How long will it take for the teabaggers to shift their opinion now that Obama is for military tribunals? I mean, if Obama is for it, they MUST be against it, right? :rofl

I'm glad it's going military. But, on the other hand, our civilian courts have sacked many of those bastards away too. (More than our tribunals have, If I recall correctly.)

I just don't think those assholes deserve the same protections and rights as our citizens do. **** 'em. The discovery process could also threaten national security.

Keep 'em in a dark cell, railroad them through the tribunals, hang 'em and be done with it. :rofl

I wish I was on that tribunal.

Yes, we'll definitely hear about how this is a travesty, a violation of rights, that bastard Obama is ignoring the constitution!

No, he was captured by Pakistani forces and turned over to our military. He receives no rights.

We don't offer civilian trials to enemies captured by our military abroad. Never have.

Shows these maniacs that America isn't going to compromise its core values for anything.

We've been showing maniacs military tribunals throughout history, why we want these men given special status, I'll never know.

Bad idea.... Barry already said they would be found guilty and executed.

Our core values have already been compromised.

What parts is he ignoring?

ummmm... because that's the... law?

that would cost hundreds of millions and damage the integrity of the judicial system?

And where do you get anything to support such claims:confused:

No he was captured by Pakistani intelligence then turned over to the CIA then transferred to our facility. By what definition of "captured by our military" does that fall under. Transferring of custody is not the same as capturing.

Because we're America and people get trials here.

And that's not always the case. There's a long history of military tribunals going back to the 40's.

KSM wasnt captured abroad by our military. Of the 3 tribunals Bush had in 8 years 2 guys are already out.

Doesn't have to be captured abroad.

Link? What was Quirin?

Take a step back for a second and think about this. If KSM goes to trial and is convicted, he will spend the rest of his life in prison/be executed. If he goes to trial and is not convicted, Obama will use his executive authority to detain him for the rest of his life anyways. If the end result of a case is already preordained, then what will running a sham trial do to the integrity of the judicial system? I would be pretty irritated if I were the judge assigned to this case.

obama used to agree with you, he doesn't now

i don't think obama really cares what you think

why would you think anyone cares about your preferences?

your opinion does not an issue make

have any of you thought about exactly WHOM would be asked to sit on ksm's JURY

some school teacher from brooklyn, some accountant from the upper west side...

how long would it take for the thought to occur to them---if i find ksm guilty and recommend a death penalty for him, how many generations of jihad will i be bringing down upon myself and my loved ones?

obama WAS FORCED to back down because he and his position are LOSERS

he and holder are AMATEURS

they have no understanding of the american soul

and they never even thought any of this stuff thru

holder testified before lindsey graham and couldn't even answer the pre-law question of PRECEDENT

NEW YORK is turning against this white house

do you understand that, are you following the goings on in NEW YORK?

LOL!

For a change I agree with you on this...

I expect that a part of this is because there isn't really the evidence that would convict him in a court of law, and possibly he's withholding information that the government would like to keep out of the public record.

Much better to stick with the tried and true technique for justice : Dunk him in water and if he floats he's a terrorist.
