How dare the Canadians humiliate the Russians in ice hockey! That's the USA team's job.

Norway's medal tally shamed all the bigger nations. They came second overall from a population of 4.5 million. Imagine how well the USA would have done if their entire team were selected from one city the size of Detroit.

What the hell are you talking about? Shame, what shame? These athletes are people that want to go compete. So a country that lives in the snow made a lot of medals in the winter Olympics, are you surprised? How well do they do in the Summer Games? Well they get there head stomped in don't they? Man get outta here.

The last Summer Olympics in Beijing saw China won the most gold medals (51). The current Winter Olympics is led by Canada with 14 gold medals. I sense a trend which should benefit the next hosts (UK and Russia)

4-3. Greatest sport victory for the U.S. ever.

Disappointed yes, hoping to fare better, or any number of was to describe what happened.

Russia has yet to recover from the collapse and break up of the USSR and their economic system is still a royal mess. The people in general are in poor financial shape and even though the government is spending millions on training etc the pool of citizens to draw from have been greatly reduced.

It is a bit sad that they resorted to claiming poor judging to account for not winning in men's figure skating, but making it to the games to compete is a life long challenge and anyone from anywhere should be proud and have nothing to feel Humiliated about.

That is unless you the Jamaican Bobsled Team of 1988 but even humiliation ended in a great deal of fun for everyone else.
If only there claim was for poor Judging that would be bad enough, but now they are suggesting that the Canadian Hockey team was on drugs.

To be fair, Germany and Norway usually beat the US on medals. Now Canada also being up there, just shows how much home advantage can have.

In the end they are all winners for having been there, whether it is the US hockey team, or the Ghanaian skier.

    Not really home advantage though

Canada spent alot of money on elite level athletes over the last few years in order to help them win medals. More money then we have ever spent on athletes for the olympics. We ended up doing quite well, but in generally non traditional sports or brand new ones to the winter games (Womens bobsled for instance, or Xcross skiing)

Same with China, they spent huge coin to do well in the olympics, they spent likely a few billion dollars a year developing athletes for the summer games

Two things can be very determinate in medal count, money and # of prospective athletes. Though Norway has a small population the sports it does well in Cross Country Skiing, Biathalon etc they have a lot of people taking part in them and are well funded. That allows them do do well in those specific sports
