Oh yeah and strike any 'conspirators' anywhere in Europe.

TEHRAN, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Iran could make European countries suffer by cutting off energy supplies and can target any adversary with its missiles, a senior Iranian military official said on Sunday.

Iran is locked in dispute with the United States and its allies over its nuclear energy programme which Western countries fear is aimed at allowing Iran the chance to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran says it is only interested in electricity.

The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) governing board meets in Vienna next week to discuss Iran while world powers are deliberating new sanctions on Iran at the level of the U.N. Security Council.

Iran is one of the world's biggest oil and gas exporters but its economy is suffering amid the global financial crisis and international ostracism over the nuclear dispute.

"Iran is standing on 50 percent of the world's energy and should it so decide Europe will have to spend the winter in cold," Hossein Salami, deputy commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, said in a meeting with war veterans and volunteers in Kerman, according to Fars news agency.

"Our missiles are now able to target any spot in which the conspirators are in, and the country is making advances in all fields," he said.

Lining up more and more support I see. Seems a little bit like bravado but I wonder would Europe allow Iran to hold them hostage to oil. Im not sure Iran holds quite the sway over the EUs energy needs...after all theres China,Russia, other OPEC countries,Mexico,Canada,etc...so lots of talk I think.

Theorhetically, would Europe allow its citizens to freeze,if indeed Iran had such power over them? Bow down to Iran and abandon sanctions or take it to Iran as a show of force?

Ahmedinejad tries to make his people believe Iran is some form of a super-state that is capable of fighting the entire West.

Sorta like what Hitler did right before the invasion of Poland.

Ahmedinejad is an idiot and hopefully Europe will call his bluff.

I heard a report about a week ago that oil deposits off the coast of California exceed those of the entire Middle east and the ones in Alaska are pretty large as well, and combined with our coal reserves, and nuclear potential we could be exporting rather than importing fuel.

One of main problems the world faces is lack of common sense in planning not only power consumption but construction of homes and apartments using an integrated system. If don't correctly it doesn't have to cost a fortune.

Also the use of coal can also be done without the massive pollution we've seen in the past by the use of the available technology.

Here one of our biggest problems is that environmentalists have turned to fighting the use of the very technology they used to harp on like SOLAR and WIND.

These technologies are under used around the world and some of the phony environmental groups fight their use as they are doing in California, Nevada and off the north east coast.

Iran is trying to force the West into full filling the Muslim Prophecy and I think they believe they have a partner in Washington sympathetic to their cause. For those in control In Iran they believe the end is near and they want to come sooner rather than later.

I'm not the only one who thinks they are counting on help from the west and being attacked by Europe, Israel or the U.S. fits their wishes.

Iran "land of the Ayrans". I'm just saying.

Before the Third Reich's invasion of Poland we had a good idea of German fighting capabilities. The West sorta watched German re-armament, and the Blitzkrieg was based off of Prussian tactics.

The last time the world watched Iran in a war showed little competency when it comes to weapons usage and overall tactics (Iran-Iraq war). Now I bet you would be hard-pressed to develop a theory that Iran is incapable of fighting a "modern warfare". Through their proxies (Jesh al-Mehdi, Hizb'allah, and that douche bag in Afghanistan) it is evident that underestimating Iran would produce horrible consequences.

I completely agree.

However, can we say that they are capable enough to face the entire West?
Certainly that should be one obvious no.

They also lack the motivation and unity the German nation had.
A lot of Iranians actually oppose their regime.
That would strongly affect the efficiency of their army.

Inflicting casualties and fighting a modern war are two different things. If the level of battle ever reached all out war,Iran would stand little chance of accomplishng very much and the current regime and its military integrity would more of less be destroyed. If they are stuck defending the homeland, their proxies will be dropped down the priority ladder.

The issue I find with this is that every time the West gets entangled with a, supposedly, lesser force there is the idea that the enemy of our enemies (within the state) are our friends. While this may be true in some cases, I do not think a method for the elimination of "accidental insurgents" is apparent just yet.

While it may be a sore subject for some to talk about or a weak connection, we have to understand the failures in IndoChina and especially in Vietnam. The NVA, in turn, ousted the French, The United States, and defending against the Chinese all the while invading Cambodia to displace Pol Pot. The technological gap between the NVA and the United States was quite large, yet the NVA managed to survive the attacks.

In the case of the NVA I think we try to equate the West's technological advantage as a sure win. The Millennium Challenge that was played in the Persian Gulf before the onset of the Iraq invasion determined that technological ability and superiority-complexes because of such, can be more detrimental to operations.

I've meant it more in the sense that a lack of Iranian unity would throw the nation out of balance, dramatically weakening it and lowering its capabilities.
