Update: Five Muslim Soldiers Arrested at Fort Jackson in South Carolina

CBN News has learned exclusively that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson in South Carolina were arrested just before Christmas. It is unclear whether the men are still in custody. The five were part of the Arabic Translation program at the base.

Patrick Jones, the Deputy Public Affairs Officer for Fort Jackson, confirmed for CBN News yesterday afternoon that an investigation was ongoing .

Prior to this posting, CBN News learned that these details were also confirmed by a government official with knowlegde of the investigation.

The men are suspected of trying to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson.

A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation, which is ongoing, told CBN News investigators suspect the "Fort Jackson Five" may have been in contact with the group of five Washington, DC area Muslims that traveled to Pakistan to wage jihad against U.S. troops in December. That group was arrested by Pakistani authorities, also just before Christmas.

Coming as it does on the heels of November's Fort Hood jihadist massacre, this news could have major implications.

Stay tuned to this blog for more details.

Army Investigates Alleged Attempt by Soldiers to Poison Food at Fort Jackson

Army Investigates Alleged Attempt by Soldiers to Poison Food at Fort Jackson - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com

The U.S. Army is investigating allegations that soldiers were attempting to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.

The ongoing probe began two months ago, Chris Grey, a spokesman for the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, told Fox News.

The Army is taking the allegations “extremely seriously,” Grey said, but so far, "there is no credible information to support the allegations."

Five suspects, detained in December, were part of an Arabic translation program called "09 Lima" and use Arabic as their first language, two sources told Fox News. Another military source said they were Muslim. It wasn't clear whether they were still being held.

Grey would not confirm or deny the sources’ information.

We're so scared of muslims that even allegations without evidence make the news.

Edit: Some arrests have been made now. See, that makes it news.... but are there other sources?
Notice one of the comments - someone who called a friend at that base who'd never heard about this. Do we have any other sources?

If there's no evidence, why were five people arrested?

I think a blogger may have made that one up? Every news source cites CBN as their source... and the CBN "news" story is a blog post!

    From AP:

COLUMBIA -- The Army has been investigating five soldiers over allegations of food poisoning at its largest training base.

But Army spokeswoman Julia Simpkins said Friday no soldiers were ever in danger at the South Carolina base. Simpkins says an investigation continues at Fort Jackson, located outside Columbia.

She said the investigation involved potentially threatening comments toward fellow soldiers.

On Thursday, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon said the investigation involved allegations that soldiers' food was being poisoned, but no credible information to support the allegations was found.

Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said the investigation has been going on for almost two months.

Garver said he was not aware of any arrests.
edit: With the not-so-surprising exception of fox news, who does NOT cite CBN as a source, yet has an article word-for-word identical, and at the end:
Fox News' Catherine Herridge contributed to this report.

    edit2:

"In December 2009, five soldiers were investigated for potential verbal threats against fellow soldiers. While the investigation continues there is currently no credible evidence to substantiate the allegations. At no time was there any danger to the Fort Jackson community."

"U.S. Army CID Special Agents are conducting an investigation at Fort Jackson. The investigation is ongoing and has been for almost 2 months. We do not release specific details of ongoing criminal investigations to protect the integrity of those investigations, but I can tell you at this point in our investigation, we have not found any credible information to substantiate the allegations."

Well, if it turns out to be untrue, we'll soon find out. So far, no other source has denied it either. I don't expect CNN or MSNBC to look too hard; took them weeks to mention the global-warming emails.

CNN and MSNBC are smart enough not to cite a blog post on CBN as their source. I imagine they had their own people talk to the military spokesperson and said "Oh... no evidence to support allegations, no arrests... isn't news."

edit: and if more information comes up I'm sure they'll be on it.

Meanwhile, Fox News puts it on the air.

Why do you suppose that is?

I am going to refrain from commenting on this story until more information has come out. But I am glad that this attempt failed. Having our soldiers worrying about things like this probably is not that good for morale.

I summation "We think there might be allegations of a plot by people we think might speak Arabic and possibly be Muslim and unverified sources might be able to tentatively confirm this possibility...maybe"

Jesus freewheeling christ, there's less waffling at IHOP than in the article.
