That wouldn't work because everyone would run back into the building, thus forcing the terrorist to enter building and still have to commit suicide.

Two Air Force F-16's have been sent aloft.

MSNBC says "he did it after a domestic dispute with his spouse".

MSNBC also says "pilot obviously dead", while Fox just about 5 minutes ago had a anchor say "we are getting reports of no fatalities... wow I can't believe the pilot survived".

edit- Fox now saying pilot is dead.

His manifesto indicates it's definitely a beef with the IRS.

The plane was apparently registered to him, how the hell does a guy with so much financial trouble buy an airplane? (EDITED: AC type reported earlier was incorrect. PA-28 Cherokee, if its old it could have been fairly cheap.

    Possible suicide note?
Well Mr. Big Brother IRS man... take my pound of flesh and sleep well.

    (also possible hoax)

edit: Looks like, assuming this is a real letter, the guy tried to cheat on his taxes by setting up a fake church or something and got pissed when the IRS fined and jailed him for it. Then some other stuff about government bailing out the airlines with his tax dollars.
Screen shots of same should the website go down.

Of course, his "beef" with the IRS stems from being caught with a fake church loophole, and later not reporting his income from independent contracting, and failing to file a tax return...

Kinda like I would have a beef with the local police department after I get arrested for burglary.

It is a terrorist attack, but not of the Islamic jihad variety.

It certainly wasn't just an "accident" as you suggested. I knew deep down it had to be intentional because if you've ever been on the outskirts of Austin, there's LOTS of room to crash land an airplane if you have to.

Often there are multiple factors converging when a person has a psychological breakdown like this. He was most likely financially overextended, owed taxes, had marital problems, and totally lost it in a fit of anger, hopelessness and despair.

The amount of worthless self pity, refusal to accept personal responsability, and paranoia in this guys manifesto is making it hurt to even read.
