Watchdog: Iran 'may be working on nuclear warhead'

You are saying Ahmadinejad has the power over the Mullahs?

What? No. I'm saying none of them believe the things that come out of their mouths. They say them because it helps them maintain power.

The Israelis have. Osirak. And in Syria.

Neither Iraq nor Syria have nuclear weapons.

That's because they are next door to China & they have nothing anyone wants......;)

And are holding South Korea hostage via artillery tubes pointed at them, but what you say is true.

However, my point stands. Once a country has a usable nuclear weapon, history shows that it simply will not be attacked in any manner that threatens the power of the regime.

no way would an American citizen pilot his airplane into a federal office building in a suicidal display of political dissatisfaction

excellent point you have made

:rofl:rofl:rofl

.

That's the reason I don't think it will be allowed.......;)

To be fair, I don't believe Iran has a history of using suicide bombers.

Apparently you've never heard of the basij volunteers during the Iran/Iraq War?

During the Iran–Iraq War tens of thousands of young Basij were killed on the battlefield. Believing that they were holy martyrs and chanting songs about the Battle of Karbala, in which the Imam Hussein, died a heroic death, the basij cleared minefields as “human waves” so that more experienced soldiers could advance against the enemy.[10] The Basij reportedly marched into battle marking their expected entry to heaven by wearing plastic "keys to paradise" around their necks.

Most Basij members were between 12 and 18 years old. They went enthusiastically to their own destruction. “The young men cleared the mines with their own bodies,” a veteran of the Iran-Iraq War recalled: “It was sometimes like a race. Even without the commander’s orders, everyone wanted to be the first.”[1]

The human wave tactic was implemented in the following way: The barely armed children and teenagers had to move continuously forward in perfectly straight rows. It did not matter whether they fell as canon fodder to enemy fire or detonated the mines with their bodies. The important thing was that the Basij continued to move forward over the torn and mutilated remains of their fallen comrades, going to their death in wave after wave. “They come toward our positions in huge hordes with their fists swinging,” an Iraqi officer complained in the summer of 1982. “You can shoot down the first wave and then the second. But at some point the corpses are piling up in front of you, and all you want to do is scream and throw away your weapon. Those are human beings, after all.”

That's why a first strike would have to come before Iran's nuke was operational and everyone (Iran and the US & Israel et al) knows this.

Israel made any plans about this? I'm sure they're very afraid of a nuclear Iran. My fear is that if they try to knock out nuclear sites, it can lead to a war between the two, beyond the current proxy war. Would not be pretty.

I don't have a shred of doubt that should they get too uncomfortable, they'll do what they did with Osiraq and the Syrian site in 07. They've been remarkably consistent in their policy on these matters.

To be fair, I don't believe Iran has a history of using suicide bombers.

They give Hezbollah approx. $100m a year.

.... why would they suspect that? We've never done it before. Nobody has. North Korea being the most recent example. They built a nuke and nobody did anything.

You guys are missing the point. Once you get a working nuke, you're protected. Hence the desire to do it quickly and secretly.

It seems the cat is out of the bag, so to speak.....
The real shame is that it never really was a secret, unless an individual had nothing but air between his ears....:(

How are we missing the point? The point is that if Israel believes that Iran is making substantial progress toward developing a nuke, it will take military action to prevent that. It's not like Iran can complete the bomb before anyone figures out that they're even close.

Yeah, nobody was under any illusion that they wouldn't try. We still need a location to blow something up, though.

No they won't.

Given that that's exactly what they did the last two times a neighboring state made progress toward a bomb, why do you say they won't?

Because attacking Iran now would destabilize the entire region, which would be incredibly detrimental to Israel. Especially with the political position that Iran has in the region, it would essentially be suicide.

It would destabilize the region in a way that attacking Syria in 2007 or attacking Iraq in 1981 (during the Iran-Iraq war) wouldn't?

From the Israeli perspective, allowing Iran to obtain a nuke would be suicide.

Iran will have backed the Israelis into the corner, I don't see them sitting on their hands waiting for destuction, & I don't blame them given the head kook's past remarks......;)

And both sides know this, which makes me wonder; 'What does Iran gain by goading Israel into attacking?'

The right to retaliation.....;)
I think they believe that they & a coalition can finally defeat Israel in a ground war....:(

That's the bet on the table. Will they or won't they?

They will have to do what we tell them to, or risk annihilation.........:(
If they do attack, it will be with our blessing, which won't be official....

The Iranians aren't doing what we are telling them now and they know they are risking annihilation yet they continue.

Risky game of chicken or intentional suicide?

And if it is suicide what does Iran get out of it? Retaliation? How? If they are annihilated there is no retaliation possible. Persians may think differently than we do but they aren't crazy.

I have the idea they want to start a Global Holy War. The end of all wars and the end of the world. By sacrificing themselves in the first strike Iran might be destroyed but that would obligate ALL Muslims around the world to rise up to defend/avenge the first strike attack that would be waged by US and/or Israel.

Iran will eventually force Israel's hand, and Obama will probably leave our allies twisting in the wind, at least, that's what they think.

The majority of the Israeli public supports Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's foreign policy and settlement expansion, the War and Peace Index revealed Sunday.

...

The majority of those polled also said they support Netanyahu's foreign policy, with 53% saying they approved of the government's conduct. Some 33%, who also affiliated themselves with the Labor and Meretz parties, said they oppose the prime minister's foreign policy.

The survey suggests that the Jewish public's support of foreign policy derives from the perception the US President Barack Obama is pro-Palestinian, a notion 46% of the participants subscribe to; 31% believe that Obama is neutral and 7% said he is pro-Israeli.

Nevertheless, when asked if the US president is likely to preserve Israel's interests in the long run, only 26% said they believed he would do so, compared with 68% who believe he would not.

Poll: 66% support continuation of Jerusalem building - Israel News, Ynetnews

Can't say I blame them...

Obama's foreign policy strategy for Iran has been an unmitigated disaster; Chavez, Putin, and Ahmadinejad are increasing their strategic leverage and political clout everyday, all at the expense of the United States and its allies.

The notion that Obama could turn on his charm and convince a bunch of sociopathic dictators to warm up to America is absurd. The only they thing they respect is strength, and Obama has very little...

N. Korea had the luxury of not being next to Israel.

Oh for cripes sakes here we go again. What is it with you partisan hacks? Could you please at least stay with the thread subject instead of hijacking the thread and making it about your dislike of Obama? :2mad:
