Marvel Comics' depiction of anti-tax protesters inspires anger, apology

i don't see them refering to thier group as "tea-baggers". Please retract your lie.
Funny thing is that I know (off hand) three people who attended the Tea Party gathering here in front of the Alamo some time back. Two of them are African American and the other is Mexican American. But a picture of any of them holding a sign saying "Tea Bag the Dems before they Tea Bag you" would not help the narrow minded label Tea Party members as racist, so ya know............

I don't see any right wingers or libertarians refering to themselves as "teabaggers"...

People who use this term to insult other members of DP, and the movement as a whole know this, and to suggest otherwise, displays a glaring lack of character and a peurile understanding of "civil debate", and it will no longer be tolerated.
i think the point is that the tea partiers coined the term themselves. that was not a lie, and you should acknowledge that. i'm happy to acknowledge the term is used as an insult now.

civil debate demands it.

i've never trusted captain america since this:

Once...just once...I wish someone that gets "caught" or "exposed" with one of these comments would come out and say..."I'm very sorry people are offended. Yes...we said it. yes...we meant it. Yes...we thought then that it was funny and still do. Its a comic book...get over it".

this is more obnoxious lies by one of the usual suspects...

Please link to where they specifically refer themselves as "teabaggers"....

Well it's just not out there. But the link I posted does prove that the term came from the kid holding the sign that says "Tea Bag the Liberal Dems before they Tea Bag you". This is a classic example of a joke blowig up in your face. It's a gaffe, the Tea Partier who made the sign wanted to be offesive and mean with a dirty joke and now the back lash is the label 'tea bagger'. Deal with it.

Except nobody in the Tea Party coined the term in reference to the Tea Party movement. Your link certainly did not prove that. In fact you will be hard pressed to prove that a movement that began with mailing "tea bags" to elected leaders in reference to the Boston Tea Party, would then turn around and use the term to describe themselves while simultaneous adopting the name "Tea Party" to describe themselves. Even grade school children "get" what Tea Party means. The derogatory term "tea bag" has been around for quite a few years now, and nobody in the Tea Party suggested that be the name of the group for obvious reasons. Any argument otherwise is utterly stupid and plainly obvious as such.;)

It is kinda funny watching posters at DP line up to try and claim that the Tea Party called themselves "Tea Baggers" by "coining" the term "Tea Bag" in reference to jettisoning the current leaders and policies they disagree with in Washington DC.

Lastly the term "tea bag" was "coined" long before 2009 and the Tea Party came along. Jesus it is amazing just how willing some are to dissemble.

Wow. My brother and I had pretty much the whole set of Micronauts toys as kids... of course we totally destroyed them. But it was fun while it lasted.

So you admit, you're being obnoxious and that no one from the tea party movement refered to themselves as "tea-baggers".

So why do you advocate the murder of US troops? I mean you want to use one person to slander an entire group. I'm going to use your logic to do the same.

Wow, look man if the roles were reversed here you know that you would be using the term. As far as being obnoxious, the original sign is obnoxious and offensive, in fact the whole rhetoric of the Tea Party Nation is obnoxious hyperbole and you know it.

Actually, since that sign says "Tea bag the liberals" it implies that the tea partiers are going to be placing their nuts in the liberals mouths. This would make them teabaggers (as the giver is the teabagger, the recipeint is the teabaggee).

Since the stated goals of at least some tea partiers was to tea bag others, for whatever reasons, they are essentially taking on the role of teabagger.

Thus, the term was simply applied to them based on their own claims about the behaviors they were engaging in.

It is not an insult as long as they do not let it be an insult. If they stayed the course, and embraced the name, saying they are teabagging Washington one liberal mouth at a time, the negative connotations would never have occurred.

It is not inherently wrong to be a teabagger. It's the best way on the planet to have one's nuts sucked on.

The tea partiers really do have no one to blame but themselves for the name being used as an insult. The people have to take offense. They cannot be given it. It's an active decision on their part to get insulted over a name was basically accurately applied given their own description of their purported actions.

If they choose not to embrace it, even after implying that it was accurate to apply it, it is their own fault.

Do people still read comic books?

By this logic, I shall be refering to all liberals from now on as "anti-American troop killers"....

One sign, do we label entire demographics off the actions of a select few?

No I wouldn't, the fact that you have no class has no bearing on whether I have class or not.

Lower taxes,
Smaller government,

Sorry you are so threatened by it.....

Do people still read comic books?

I quit reading them around 14. But yes I think people still read and love them. It's mythology American style

Um you called me a libtard and many other names here over the years. Forgive me if I (and the rest of the forum members here) don't believe you.

Lower taxes,
Smaller government,

I'm for it too, unfortunately no politicians are... not even Sarah Palin.

Sorry you are so threatened by it.....

Oh I'm not threatend by it, it's just a fad. I'll be surprised if the movement is even around in 2012. The media might get bored and go with something else. Or Obama and Congress might actually succeed with something by then and even the Tea Partiers (notice how I've quit with the slur? awhile ago in fact) will have realized that, despite all the kicking and screaming they did, it all worked out in the end.

That's disingenuous, the tea party is an offshoot of conservative, not all of conservatism.

What you are showing is an offshoot of liberalism. If you want to label those within that offshoot as anti-American troop killers, feel free. Those people pictured have purposely associated themselves with that label, and the label is warranted. But labelling all liberals as anti-American troop killers is disingenuous, because not all liberals are associating themselves with those concepts.

However, since the tea partiers have purposely associated themselves with tea bags from the very start, they have embraced this association. The application of the term teabagger is fully warranted because of this.

However, calling all conservatives teabaggers is unwarranted, as not all conservatives have associated themselves with these groups.

Well your can but you have to prove that this was at a liberal rally and the sign was made by a liberal organization.

And if they have associated themselves with these groups, then they ARE teabaggers. Nice.

Big deal. I would think that people making a stand wouldn't be such ******s about name-calling and would instead ignore the asinine attempts to insult them.

Whatever man. What is your issue with small government and individual liberty?
