U.S. soldier 'waterboarded his own daughter, 4, because she couldn't recite alphabet'

Soldier father accused of 'waterboarding' daughter, 4, because she can't recite alphabet | Mail Online

A soldier waterboarded his four-year-old daughter because she was unable to recite her alphabet.

Joshua Tabor admitted to police he had used the CIA torture technique because he was so angry.

As his daughter 'squirmed' to get away, Tabor said he submerged her face three or four times until the water was lapping around her forehead and jawline.

Tabor, 27, who had won custody of his daughter only four weeks earlier, admitted choosing the punishment because the girl was terrified of water.
Tabor, a soldier at the Lewis-McChord base in Tacoma, Washington, was arrested after being seen walking around his neighbourhood wearing a Kevlar military helmet and threatening to break windows.

Police discovered the alleged waterboarding when they went to his home in the Tacoma suburb of Yelm and spoke to his girlfriend.

She told them about the alleged torture and the terrified girl was found hiding in a closet, with bruising on her back and scratch marks on her neck and throat.

Asked how she got the bruises, the girl is said to have replied: 'Daddy did it.'
    A crying shame.

That man is a terrible waste of human flesh, but it must be said that he does not represent soldiers in general. If a civilian broke into your home, would you say that he represents all civilians? Of course not.

I am not posting this to accuse you of anything. All you did was report a heinous act by a complete asshole. All I want to do is to nip any potential in the bud that seeks to make the claim that the man did it because he is a soldier. Human nature being what it is, I am sure that there are a few people, not only on this board, but also in the population at large, who might attempt to make an outrageous claim like this.

That is sick. To think anyone could do that to a preschooler is hideous, and it is millions of times more heinous to think a person would do that to his own flesh and blood.

I hope they turn him loose in the general population and he gets the **** beaten out of him.

I know how so many are adamant that water boarding is not torture. Would this be considered torture for the little girl or just abuse?

Goes to show you just because you put on a uniform it doesn't automatically make you a "hero" contrary to what you hear. I've always contended calling everyone in the military a heroes cheapens the real meaning of the word that applies to the real military heroes. I've know a few troops I wouldn't trust my dog to. But I still respect 99.999 of the troops as I was one myself once and I commend their sacrifices.

That said, I'm not making excuses for the man, but have to wonder if he was deployed, and if so did it have any effect on him.

These kinds of stories challenge my opposition to the death penalty

....we do live in a society where we for 8 years we were constantly told that waterboarding was not torture. I guess some people actually did buy it.

While I certainly don't in any way condone what this man did....I think we have to recognize that these are the costs that we as a society pay when we overtax our military and send men/women into mission after mission where they are taught these types of things and are told by many that it is not torture and that it is an appropriate use of punishment.
I'm afraid that like Vietnam...we will be paying the costs of GWB's wars in many many many ways like this.

they don't teach waterboarding to people in the military, it is so well known because it has been publicized by the media.
