Sad story from Los Angeles. Of course, confronting a 20+ year old "tagger" in Pico Union (heavy gang area with high concentration of 18th Street gang members) probably wasn't wise.

As long as this behavior is tolerated, tragic stories like this will continue. You don't confront taggers or gangsters...you take them down hard and with overwhelming/lethal force as need be. It's high time that the citizens of these neighborhoods take back their neighborhoods up to including exterminating these gangsters....they all know who they are. Handling these individuals with violet gloves doesn't work.

I'm guessing you haven't dealt much with gangsters. They don't care about the law, they roam around disrespecting everyone but when they disrespect you it doesn't matter because they think they are allowed to. You know what happens when they disrespect someone? They gang up on them it will be like 10 against 1. Is that fair? No. Gang members are scum and should be treated as such. Unfortuanately I live in IL and we have the largest concentration of gang members and it's real sad. I see 12 year olds joining the latin kings and the like. They are living a criminal life so early and they haven't even begun to live. Where do you think these people end up? You think they go to live on in mansions? No. Most end up living in the slum that they are or they go to jail or dead.

I still remember swearing an oath to protect our country from, "...enemies, foriegn and domestic."

I don't remember anything in civics class saying that we take murdering thugs and treat them as heads of state, signing peace treaties and giving thm photo ops, because law enforcement is too weak to deal with the problem.

No I said overwhelming slash lethal force, meaning either or. BTW being scared, I think you are already there when traveling in these nieghborhoods.
 
Did the posters on this thread even bother to read the article, or are you just venting your spleens? Could you PM me when that's over and people want to talk about this story rationally?

You apparently don't realize the victim WAS HIMSELF A GANG MEMBER who had turned around and was working to make a difference in his neighborhood....and had been doing so for almost 20 years.

This is the problem with the Liberal mindset, they think these animals should have rights...
I say they forfeited those rights when they chose to act like wild pack animals....

I think corporal punishment should be reinstated for these kinds of crimes....
Animals understand a beating when nothing else gets through.....;)

These area's run by gangs have gone beyond being reformed, these individuals made that decision on their own and chose to live by the sword and now they should be eliminated by the sword if they so wish. This has gone on for far to long and the death toll continually mounts those who are involved and for those who happen to be just passing by.

Is he? Please enlighten us on how to change this civilly...I think we have been trying this for 3 generations now and to no avail. You can't tame something that has gone rabid as a rule. We have tried it the liberal way and it doesn't work, you may save a few but mean while the ship is sinking.

Wrong. You're simply mistaken. We HAVEN'T sustained comprehensive gang prevention, intervention and suppression efforts in these areas over the past 30 years. In fact, in Los Angeles, the police department has often chosen the worst possible option at every intersection. Think about LAPD CRASH.
