Malawi man arrested for posting gay rights posters

Malawian police have arrested a man for allegedly putting up posters supporting homosexuality, which is illegal in the southern African nation.

Peter Sawali was charged this week with conduct likely to cause breach of peace, said police spokesman Davie Chingwalu.

You have to appreciate a country that has a prohibition on homosexuality written into the constitution......

I heard it said that, christians should not go to places countries that are culturally hostile to them. Wouldn't the same logic apply here? If you are gay, you should have known better than to be gay in south africa? Not saying I support that but, I want the more..."extreme" liberals here to remain consistent.

You or course forgot to finish the last part of that sentence, here we go.

"Christians should not go to places or countries that are culturally hostile to them and expect the U.S. to bail them out if they get into trouble there for breaking the law".

And yes, the same would apply to this situation if a man went into the country and did this, he should be prepared to face whatever the law throws at him for breaking it.

The primary difference here being that the man is, as best I can tell, a Malawian citizen. While I disapprove of homosexuality, this law is stupid and not even allowing the peaceful display of a poster is a stark violation of basic human and civil rights.

So you are basically playing to the classic argument that sexual orientation is just as much a choice as religious affiliation. Big surprise.

Given your absolutist certainty that sexual orientation is a choice for every living human being, could you provide some evidence to support that assertion or is this just the classic conservative BS?

Of course the law is stupid, no one is arguing that, I'm arguing the logic that the extreme-conservatives should excuse this case for the same reason extreme-liberals excuse cases of christian persecution.

    How am I being inconsistent?

You are the only person I have met who likes to pretend like they know how every other person operates. In your eyes, every person can control their sexual orientation as easily as picking a religion. A gay Jew today, a straight Muslim tomorrow.

Umm, I never said it was a choice in this thread, how exactly are you combating my arguement? If you want to debate sexual choices and preferences, go ahead. But this is about consistency. There are plenty of countries this guy could have gone to if he was gay...instead he chose to stay in Malawi where he KNEW the rules...at least that has been the logic when applied to christians who go to North Korea and end up getting persecuted. Why excuse one case, and not the other?
